Hey guys, after a bit of CC if you don't mind.

Been asked to create a logo for a College run traditional music club.

Name: Newry Trad Club

I know, terrible name, and I recoiled in horror when I heard it.

Anyway, this is my favourite that I've done. Opinions?

I've done a logo for the college before and barely received thanks, so this time they're not getting a sniff of it until I receive some sort of payment.

Anyone else and I'd get some sort of confirmation of the job to be done, but this was a phone call late in the day.

The symbol design is excellent, very clearly music, with a classical feel to it. I'd be tempted to lose "club" from the text, since it doesn't really add anything and detracts from the key points of the logo.

Little else to say really, good work.

Looks superb; as Makhaira says I'd lose 'club'. Maybe replace with 'music society' or something similar? Club sounds like something that exists in a wendy house at the bottom of someone's garden

Thanks peeps.

Will provide versions with and without the Club to see which they prefer. :)

Only worry is that they wanted a modern font. I hope they don't see a serif font and think "Oh noes! We said modern!"

Looks really good skippi. If they dont like the serif font you could try something like this font called, CODE. I think it would work, but personaly the serif font looks great :)

Classical music.
Classical icon.
Modern font?

Would be an odd mix. If you go that route I'd suggest trying capitalising the first and last letter of each line to try and maintain a sense of a distinct edge with the loss of the serif.

Less taken with those tbh. If I had to choose between them though I'd go for the grayscale one. I'd definitely submit your first (green) design with a few variations to them, I'd be surprised if they rejected it.

Ta PiePlough, will try that tonight. :)

Here's my 'modern' alternative. Or as modern as I think I should go for a traditional group.

The one in your first post was much better than those IMO.

The only problem with your first design is that it is very tall making it an awkward shape - I'd look at repositioning the text alongside the symbol rather than below it, to make it more compact.

You've squashed the clef in the take two version, and that definitely spoils the image for me - it's much better in the first. Aside from that, the second font it fine and the placement of the text doesn't bother me. Assuming they're going to be using it for posters and things, the horizontal one is probably more usable.

Nice job, I like the first one personally, although I'd increase the leading between Newry and Trad as the serifs on the T are starting to clash with the baseline of Newry.

They're awful (at least relatively speaking) :p

Take 2

Like this a lot. :)

Nice - though I think I prefer the first (minus the 'club'). As someone else mentioned you've squashed the clef and it doesn't look as good. And whilst I like the font in the second, I'm not entirely sure it suits its purpose. Also, the text placement doesn't 'sit right' to my eye, it should be pushed further up to sit bang in the middle of the 'body' of the clef.

You've squashed it skip!

don't think the font suits in take 2

Think your first post is perfect if you drop club like others suggested
