My GF has sold her 205 GTI 1.9 - just ended up being too unreliable but she loved it as did I.
Now she'll have about £5K to spend. She'll get bored of a small engine car - so nothing too "green" with no go but of course £5K not a massive amount and out of anything it has to be more reliable than the gti but of course all cars have issues.
So a fun reliable car under £5K, but not too girly. She's not into pink and fluff. Smaller is better, but shes handled my Rover 75 - and volvo in the past better than most.
