...however, my small garden (well, courtyard) only has sunlight until midday and then the house blocks out the sun. Would this be a problem? I do have a small front garden though.

After doing a very quick google, potatoes apparently require a lot of sunlight.

Any ideas/tips?

Mine worked a treat last year, i had some in the ground and some in tubs, the ones in the ground faired better than the tubs.

Old car tires are useful for growing Potatoes in confined spaces if you can get a hold of some. Place one down, fill it with soil and plant the potatoes. When they sprout add more soil, another tire and continue to about 3-4 high.

Yeah, potatoes are dirt cheap, something expensive like herbs would be a better use of the space, plus it'll make your garden smell nice!

**** easy to grow.

You just need to have some potatoes with eyes on them, Make a box or tube around a 75cm-100cm high and plant then at the bottom with out filling ht ebox to the top. When they grow and there leaves break the surface of the dirt they are planted in then put more dirt or sand on top covering all the leave by a couple of centimeters.
Then every time the leaves grow through the dirt/sand again cover them again. And repeat this until the box is full.
Once the box is full just let them grow and before you know it you will have more potatoes then you can poke a stick at. :)

Pretty much how Rozzy did it with Tires. :)

BTW people saying it costs more to grow them then it does to buy them are doing it wrong :p

This method is very good if space is an issue, I'm planning on doing this myself this year.

I won't be using tyres though, I'll have to think of something else that I can stack on top of one another. You can buy specialist potato grower things too, which follow the same principle.

There's always a certain amount of satisfaction eating something you've grown yourself. :)

I grew two large pots of potatoes this year. I think we ate all of about 10 of them - they're still outside under the soil in the pots, well, if they've not been eaten/rotted away.
