this post is not flame bait but I'm genuinely interested on everyones thoughts here..

when I'm having a quick browse of motors I often look at who's online, and it's often just a select 'hardcore' user group...

this made me think about do many of us spend to much time on a forum, it's scary scary stuff.

Fox, I'm going to use you as a example as your the most prolific poster, not a dig... but I think it will shock you beyond belief

not much I guess over a few years... but if you start to make some calcs on the figures it is scary beyond words.

now take the post count and * 5 (5 mins would be a figure to include typing your post and reading / rereading thread, this is VERY conservative)

total time used: 520515 mins

nowwwwwwwww....... that is a total of (big fanfare here)

361 Days solid posting / reading

Life is really short, is 1 year posting on a forum a waste of it ?, I'm as guilty, this post is a waste of time also, but internet use is going a bit far maybe ? (bordering on obsession)

Loads of high post counters here... what you all think ?, I'm cutting back as much as I can on net use as it scares me.

fox won one of the charity post auctions iirc.

[TW]Fox didn't. His is the highest unadulterated post count on OcUK. Gilly may still be a bit higher in terms of actual posts but you can no longer tell since he added to them as an Admin.

You'll probably also find that the figure of five minutes per post will be questioned, some people spend half a minute on a post if you're lucky. I understand the point and you may even be right to an extent but then again how long does the average person spend watching soaps or whatever else - is this any better or worse than that?

You dont sit here eagle eyed anyway you have it going while you do whatever else it is you are doing, or i do anyway.

I know I spend a lot of time just refreshing every so often, reading posts, motors is a constant on my IE tabs. Probably spend a good 5-10 mins every hour reading/skimming something on motors when at work. Doesn't bother me, I quite enjoy it.

Thats it isnt it, its entertainment with a few helpful facts thrown in.

Shock horror, motoring enthusiasts spend time on motoring forum! What ever next? :o:o:o:o

Maybe we should all spend our evenings watching X-factor?

+1.

Boo hoo. Seriously.

No-one forces people to post , people post because they want to. Therefore where's the harm, why be concerned about people doing what they want to do?

5 mins a post is not conservative.

I begrudge the 5 star rating system, If I hate something that much it deserves zero gold stars, a gold star is good, it's made of gold! 5 is amazing, but still 1 gold star should mean acceptable minimum? Its a star made of gold, you don't get that for trash posting? silly system...
