Double whites the law

Video is private.

The offence is crossing double white lines, so driving on them isn't a specific offence. However, you always have the offence of driving without due care and attention to contend with.

Yup. I got done for driving without due care and attention for overtaking and not being back on my side of the road before the solid white started.

There is a correct side of the road, you drive on the left

Yes that is true. But that does not mean that to drive the right hand side of the road is 'wrong' ??? Are you telling me you never 'straighten a corner' or take a wide entry into a left hand bend for better visibilty etc? Regardless of whether you do or not that it does not make it wrong to do so.. What is so hard to understand about that? As a road user you are entitled to use ALL of the road.

his means you may cross the lines to overtake if it is safe, provided you can complete the manoeuvre before reaching a solid white line on your side

You said it yourself, if there's a slolid white line on the left hand side of the road, you need to be in the correct lane.

Has the law changed? I thought, and this thread on 5ive-O goes along my theory, that at least one "get over" arrow and catseyes are needed to make the double solid whites enforceable.

interesting.

If you look close at the vid, you'll see the bit with the solid line is a newly resurfaced road with a newer, smoother surface, the longer single white lines are worn and on an older bit of the road. It's as if it's 2 separate roads that they haven't marked properly on the join.

I should point out that "Hoon Devil" on 5ive-0 is a traffic planning officer, so knows the law better than most police.

I failed my first test for overtaking a pushbike and crossing a solid white line on a clear road in spalding.

My Instructer just shook his head when I told him what the examiner said to me when we got back.
