UK UK PS3s getting ITV and C4 streaming this week

good stuff, but ....

is it me or is PS3 really slow for internet connections? they need to update their browser it is horrible to surf or stream on it

PS my ps3 is hooked via ethernet to router, same as my comp but speed is defo not the same. streaming is choppy, low quality and buggy imo, whereas it's great on pc

Yeah I agree, when I'm hard wired into my Desktop I get 37mb down and 8mb up. When I'm hard wired into my PS3 I get no more than 18mb down and 4mb up, it's like the adapter can't fully output my connection speed.

The adapter is fine, it's even gigabit (1000mb) capable.

I've personally never had any issues with the networking on the PS3 and generally find it very competent, I can even stream 1080p contact with DTS fine via wi-fi using the PS3 Media Server, and downloading always max's out my connection.

I can only assume that some ISP's don't fully open the ports for PSN but if you test your connection and have nat type 2 you should be fine.

I tried both players this morning, both seemed fine and much better than the quality of iPlayer in my opinion. For some reason since a recent iPlayer update it's been rubbish at buffering stuff properly and often I'll have to endure 3 or 4 minute pauses while the thing catches up, there were no such problems with either 4OD or the imaginatively named ITV Player this morning. The only gripe I have is that ITV have such **** TV shows that there is virtually no point in the catch up service because there's nothing worth catching up on.

Had a look at 4od, hardly any shows, hope they expand soon, as would like to watch more classic shows like on normal 4od. Ah well, guess I can't complain as it's free anyway, at least they are going the right way.

This might be a silly question but why not simply support Flash and then they do't have to add every video streaming website individually. Seems retarded. Suerly the PS3/360 have teh powah.

Did they manually add TVcatchup or what cos as said that works(ed).

My NAT type is 2, I'm not going to sit here and tell you my ISP and router are fine because I'm on BT Infinity and use the Home Hub lol. It would be great if I could get the full speed out of my connection on it, I just find it odd that I get full speed on my desktop and laptop but not PS3. I'm not sure why an ISP would limit what you can do on PSN.

Its does support Flash but not the most up-to-date version which is why some sites dont work. Im sure a while ago ITV Player was using Silverlight and not Flash anyway...

TVCatchup still works but when they updated the site they accidently removed PS3 support and provided a legacy page - now it just works...
