2 x 570s or 2 x 480s ?

2 GTX 570's.

Less power usage, less heat and noise.

You could buy 2 after market coolers for the 480's with the 60 pound saving but that means effort and the power usage would still be higher.
 
I agree that it would be mad to hit the 480s based on the fact they are EOL however if your gaming at a high res with plenty of AF and AA then Id honestly get 480s over the 570s. The amount of money your save over a year from the 570s wouldnt pay for the difference in cost anyway so its a false economy really.

dual 480's will still outperform 570's at those sorts of levels?

Indeed, 320bit memory interface on the 570... 384bit on the 480.. same as the 580. THink of it this way, the 570 is a little like the GTX275.

The 275 was essentially a 260 with a 280 core. The 570 is essentially a 470 with a 480 core so naming has gone out of the window.

Its all good at the end of the day, 480 pricing is better than ever and new cards will hopefully drive down other stocks. Win win :)

thanks for the info andrew. recently purchased one of your ultima dreadnought machines, and had the 480sli swapped out for 570sli. starting to think my decision to do so may have beena a tad premature based on some possibly misleading benchmarks i have seen on other sites. the main impression i had got was that the 570 was neck and neck with the 480 performance wise and across the board, with the 570 just having less power draw, as well as being cooler and quieter.

that said, i'm sure i'm just making mountains out of molehills, and i can still expect a really great performance, especially considering i won't be gaming at a really high res. expecting delivery this afternoon, can't wait :)

awesome mate we will have to compare notes! i remember reading your thread on the general forum actually but can't remember what specs you went with in the end? you're building yourself aren't you? tbh i doubt the difference will be noticeable, unless you're gaming on some sort of 32 " 3d megabeast, which i don't think you are:) that being said i might be wrong, and would be interested to hear andrew's thoughts on the tangible differences..
