Disabled Protestor Jody McIntyre in Shameful BBC Interview

I've not seen the headlines yet, and just read rough bits on twitter. So I could be misinformed here.

So a wheelchair bound gent is whinging that he was beaten up by the police. Oh cry me a river, what a typical headline nowadays. Why was he there in the first place? Trying to grab the media spotline by being on the front line?

If he wants to attend a protest, fair enough. Don't wheel yourself to the front and expect a homecoming by the met police. Last time I messed with them I got a baton to the head (NYE, I was drunk) and afterwards when I sobered up I realised I was wrong and gave the copper a pat on the back. They are the law ffs.

Some of the things I've seen in this thread are appalling, but I can't really make a true judgement unless I know everything that happened at the incidences.

Also OcUK has made me indifferent to the term "student" now because clearly it just means "ragamuffins know-nothings that cause trouble" as opposed to "individual partaking in furthering their education", now :p

He got treated like everyone else being an idiot at those "protests" well actually he got treated with a bit more sympathy he didn't get hit in the face with a baton, perhaps he would have preferred that option.

This is the people control tool the Home Secretary wants to see used against the students. People should not be afraid of their government, governments should be afraid of their people...

tbh...they don't just randomly spray people behaving themselves though do they... Tis a fairly serious escalation measure and I don't see why they shouldn't be able to use them if required. Especially in situations where metal poles and bits of fencing are being used or just breaking up the 'black bloc' protesters.

Might well have have prevented the incident where someone was hit on the head with a baton resulting in brain damage.

looool, I give up.

You guys are tough.

Sometimes I feel people here argue for the sake of arguing.

If I post a thread about there being no God, even though I clearly know most of you here believe its mumbo jumbo, the argumentative ones will come out in full force even though they don't believe in God and state there is God.

No we wouldn't.....:p

Besides how do you know there is no God, can you prove that.;)

totally forgets that him and his brother were approaching the police and plays the disabled card. Atleast they still get a loan, get your ass to most other countries in the world or stfu.

This is how you deal with protesters

i wouldn't trust the MET police with a water pistol never mind a water cannon. id love not to have to pigeon hole the whole lot of the met but its the higher ups who love a good cover up and ridiculous lies.

im genuinely surprised they even admitted to this incident. maybe they really did learn some lessons after G8

They should fill the water cannons with lemonade, not only will you get wet but you'll also be sticky! Then you'll think twice about causing a nuisance about something you don't understand.

Ontopic - Nothing wrong with the interview, the interviewee was trying to push his own agenda and not address the news story that the interviewer was trying to do. Plus, the disabled bloke (as usual) doesn't have a clue about the matter at hand (the fees rise).
I was getting coffee last week, and there was a fees protest going past the coffee shop at the time. As it happened, my Conservative Member card fell out of my wallet when I was getting my money and the guy behind the counter said "Thank God not all of you young people are as stupid as those outside." It made me happy.

.

i suppose the 200 MPs who voted against it didnt have a clue or understand the matter at hand either ?

Why should disabled people be treated any differently to anyone else? If you're going to put yourself in the media spotlight you're open to criticism and mocking as much as the next person.
Take the **** out of them as much as the next person, but it's a bit tight to do it about their disability

Seems only a few here can comprehend the problem. The issue I take is how the media are reporting this.

I stated previously that the only grounds for him to be removed, excessive force or not is debatable. Is if he was a risk to himself or others around him. That hasn't been established yet.
What exactly is it about the way the interview was conducted that you find objectionable?

Have you, perhaps, already passed judgement and determined the incident to be a completely inexplicable, unprovoked and unjustifiable action on the part of the police officers involved? That sounds rather unlikely to me.

There remain a number of questions surrounding the incident, and in light of this Ben Brown did an excellent job of attempting to get to the bottom of it, even when Mr McIntyre insisted on dodging questions and trailing off into moral incredulity at every opportunity.

Would you prefer the BBC to serve as a platform for individuals such as Mr McIntyre, who clearly has a strong political agenda, to spew their diatribe completely unchallenged?

Either that, or they accepted that a large portion of their electorate are students and realize that they best pander to their (ill-informed) ideas in order to ensure that they get re-elected at the next election. I have no idea if anyone has done a study to show the relationship between numbers of students in a constituency and those who voted against the rise but I think it would be rather interesting.
