Best £500 throw away car....

I will be doing this in January, and maybe not fun, but I was looking at a Honda Accord or Nissan Primera, basically because there likely to hit 200k and still keep going.
Can be had for less than 500 also.

I can't remember exactly, but it failed MOT and I got a quote from a few garages, price was about £1500 to sort out. Had diagnostics on it and the computers and sensors were funked up, apparently after some tracing it was some kind of one of demo/dealer show car thing as it had a bunch of weird stuff on it. Activas are rare enough as it is, and spending time diagnosing faults costs.

The biggest 'user noticeable' problems, were the brakes would never work immedietly, you had to wait about 30secs before you had brake action. This actually caught me out a couple of times, and was actually pretty downright dangerous. Fine normall, but if you swap back and forwad into different cars - the xantia really is a bit of a different car that you can't just jump in and go. Even friends who drove my LX xant were like 'WTF is this car'

Also the suspension would go up and own left and right of it's own acccord. Yes this is normal, but not what my car was doing. There were loads of other niggles, and for the price I just got shot. (i'd already spent about £150 on mots and garage time to look at the thing.

But when It worked it was fun. Handling and cornering was scary. The engine pulled well right up to well over 100.

The scariest was going round roundabout too fast. You could literally drive up to them, not slow down, just turn the wheel and beast round them it frightens passengers.

When you went too fast it used to break away in a nice 4 wheel drift.

Yes it's a laguna, not the best.

Bought this today for £450, Laguna 1.8i Dynamique 8 months mot 1 months tax

I need to fix the bushies on the back, other than that everything works and it drives ok.

i wa waiting for you to post locky, i got one of them exactly the same but with climate control for £500 lol

Pretty good example of a hit and run thread this, mind. gurdas hasn't been back since he posted the OP.

Odd to see this thread from him - he was adament he'd be in a Lambourghini by the age of 23 and woe betide anyone who tried to dispute that

£450 for that? Must be something wrong with it, surely?

Yes, it's a Laguna Mk2. They are absolutely dire for reliability - so much so it's properly caned the residuals and literally nobody wants one.

They could be free and they'd still be a completely stupid idea.

Maybe he's so hilariously loaded that he wants a different car every day?

That's a bargain. How come so cheap? Does it have tons of faults with it / crash repaired?

Only fault I can find in the bushies on the rear need replacing, could do with wishbones changing on the front, other than that its ok and has full service histroy.

Hey guys, I'm planning to buy a sub 500 motor next month.
Id be interested to know what you guys would do. I intend to look on ebay for a bargain, with longest tax and mot really, but do know enough about motors to know if i'm buying a lump with some certificates.
Could someone scan through the first 1-2hundred listing on ebay within 50miles of so15 2jr or here

What would be your choice from them???
I personally think but dont know why that this would be a good choice, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-SAAB-900...4938277?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2eb2017fa5
Thanks.

The bid is 320 so I would guess it'll end over 500.

You should check for yourself on an owners forum, etc, buying a car this old you should budget another 500 for repairs especially on luxo barges

I love the first post there, 300zx with only 79k miles but 20 years old! Always wanted one of those but its entirely unrealistic usually.

Draw up a short list, mondeo is standard advice given here. I'd love to disagree but its likely with good reason ie. massive supply, reasonable quality and costs
