Suggestions please, how to promote our data warehouse system to internal staff on the Intranet

Train people on how to use it PROPERLY and you won't need to sell it. I have never had an IT system implemented at any of my jobs where the training for users has been acceptable. All that happens is people ignore the new systems or at best don't use them to their full potential.
 
Just to increase the exposure of the system, hopefully get existing users to use it more where relevant and opening the eyes of non-users to the benefits. Also to keep employees up to date with latest project developments and data currently available for reporting. There is also an initiative under way to migrate some of the un-supported MS Access solutions (that are popular in that they have worked for a long time) to Cognos.

I also think they want this to increase activity on the new Intranet system.

"but it works the old way" yes, but this is faster and means that the people who DID tidy up the piles of paperwork you created can do other, more productive work.

Your statement is so true. I work in the Book Publishing industry for a company called Hachette.

tbh we haven't really got a problem, it's just an initiative that has borne out of a recent senior management team meeting and cascaded down to the team. I have got to come up with a couple of ideas, which I tried to evade! Worst case i will give the token obvious response it's not super important, I posed the question on this forum just in case some marketing wiz had a grand idea i could steal for my own and earn some corporate bonus points :)

You simply remove the old system then they have to use the new one. :confused:

I never understand the point of running parallel systems for years and years unless you want to be as efficiant as the NHS ofcourse.
 
Think of direct examples within your organisation where it could help people do their job more efficiently, situations where it could resolve problems that they may currently have. Have a nugget or rotating image with each of these problems/solutions illustrated on it (on the home page).

If people can see a real world reason to use it they might, otherwise they just won't take any interest.
 
Get some old propaganda posters printed up with "Cognos for Victory" on them etc. Failing that, assemble all workers and then drop one through a trap-door into a tank of piranhas.

why don't you set up an hour meeting with each department, and explain the pros and cons of moving over. then set up a timeline and milestones for transfer.

once you ahve 1 department migrated the rest willbe easy.

remember people wont sign up for it just by putting an advert. you need to be proactive
