Can anyone comment on the current road conditions from London to Manchester?

Slightly odd question I know, but I'm expecting a delivery from City Link which has been delayed (expected yesterday, then apparently today, and now maybe tomorrow...) the reasoning being a back-log.

Now, unless I'm much mistaken, the snow has passed the 'bit difficult to get around' phase in 90% of the country and has been so for well over a week, and down here all deliveries are back to normal. In fact I ordered a GTX480 waterblock from OcUK (Newcastle-Under-Lyme) yesterday, turned up at 10:30 this morning. The other thing was ordered last Thursday (evening to be fair) and was dispatched Friday for 'estimated' delivery on Monday. From Manchester, a whole 50 miles extra.

Does Manchester have a different climate? After phoning the business involved, their excuse was backlog, but that can't be right...

So, anyone else with similar issues with S***ty Link? Especially poor, as delivery cost £13 for a GTX480, (including the extra charge I paid for AM delivery), which was a bit steep anyway I feel (as I told the guy - you can get guaranteed next day for that money at many places. In fact RMSD only cost around £8.65 when I sent a GTX470 back somewhere else, which is guaranteed next day before 1PM and is insured to £500, so I feel they're taking the **** somewhat)...

For Royal Mail maybe, but City-Link who's longest delivery they offer is two days? Seems unlikely to me. I understand that they are busy, but my point is that DPD are quite capable of delivery next day so clearly City-Link haven't got the appropriate infrastructure in place making them inferior maybe? Whichever way, I'll make sure to go for the guaranteed next day option next time, but the other point I was making was that the price for delivery is extortionate...

I meant so I have comeback on the company involved.

Anyway, it isn't that bad. I live in the middle of a town on a main road, the depots are all linked by main roads, and throughout the bad weather period, I still drove to Brighton and back (50 miles each way) with none of the major roads being that bad...

Surely the clue is in the name - backlog. They have more parcels in the warehouse than they have capacity to deliver at the moment. This is a backlog.

Thanks for the definition, I had no idea what backlog meant.

I was referring to the fact that other delivery companies (DPD for example) seem to be doing just fine with a similar trip, so City Link should perhaps up their game?

If you can find a way of increasing capacity by enough to clear a backlog instantly with a very short lead time then perhaps you should consider a new career as a consultant in supply chain logistics.
