Volvo slogan - "More to life than a Volvo"

Its a miss spelling, they mean to say "that's why you dont drive one"

Never made any sense to me either, just sounds like they're saying that basically its cars are transparent and uninvolving......so you can focus on other things :D

This slogan is bizarre because Volvo appear to be being disparaging to their own brand.

Life's too short to worry about what car you're driving, so just drive a Volvo. Brilliant.

You're all talking about it though, so on one level it worked!

I can kind of see what they're trying to get at, sort of saying that the car can fit in with your lifestyle and you wont have to worry about it too much.....or something

You have to worry about it though! Nigh on BMW servicing costs for nigh on a Ford vehicle, which even its manufacturers think is better to forget about :p.

I always interpreted it as being the saftey aspect. True or not I think lots of people still think of Volvos as being nice safe cars. The idea being that chances are the stuff in your car and the places your going are more important than the car itself.

My 2p anyway :P

Yes, but BMWs don't actually create joy either.

It is an odd one, but any ad that people remember is a good ad. Like the drumming gorilla for dairy milk - didn't make ANY sense but everyone remembers it

I think the problem is that to buy a s40, you have to say to yourself:

I don't want the BMW 3 series or Mercedes C class or Audi A4 or Ford Mondeo (Titanium for this comparison) or Lexus (whatever it is) or VW Passat or perhaps even a SAAB.

I mean to have a comparison tool on the Volvo website comparing volvo's to other saloons really does show signs of "Look seriously our cars are more equipped and are cheaper, don't go buy a German saloon because we know you are going to"

Yes they are cheaper compared to the German rivals but the running costs are considerably higher.

The Volvo slogan,in the trucking community.....

"There's more to life than a Volvo, that's why you drive a Scania!". :D

Exactly, the advert is based on the perceived safety and reliability of the marque. e.g. there's plenty of stuff to worry about in life, so make sure you don't have to worry about your car.

Then again I would worry about how I was going to pay for it, and how I'd survive the boredom of driving one

Are the new ones especially boring then? What did you find bored you?

C30's a really nice car too, great build quality. Only niggle is slightly uninvolved steering but hey, other than that......

Oh, almost forgot - totally useless boot though :D

The quick(ish) C30 might be ok I suppose, I've not driven one. In in general they are simply not fun or exciting cars to drive, they weren't designed to be. Comfortable, quiet and wafty certainly, but it's not the kind of car I can get excited about really.
