I think im going to either get a second hand Dell 30" screen or a 32" HDTV. Searching google I have found a few threads from around 2006 - 2008 but none recently.

I have been and looked at LCD and LED TVs and whilst LED look nice and thin, thats about it. The picture quality isnt as good as LCD still

I had my eye (no pun intended) on a Samsung LE32c580. This is full HD for £350 and looks great.

I asked one of the guys working in the store (think rogan josh, vindaloo etc) if 100hz is better because I would be using it as a PC monitor and he said "no, nothing is broadcast in 100hz yet" I then said, what about sports, wouldnt they be faster - to which he replied yes. I then said "I thought nothing is broadcast in 100hz" and he looked at me stumped and walked off!
I'm no a smartarse, but he was talking a right load a poo and didnt know what I meant when I asked him about response time or dot pitch

I did actually want to know these things before I shell out 400 notes

The 30" Dell will be vastly better as a monitor, the resolution will be loads higher giving it higher clarity and detail.

If you're only watching movies then a TV is fine.

I don't think you saw proper LED TVs, what you saw were LED backlit TVs, huge difference!

Anyway, apart from the average mouse lag in most LCD TV screens I have used a PC on (32" to 52")) the sharpness and resolution qualities are just fine. For media they're ideal and cheap but to get PC monitor like quality you need to buy a 30" PC monitor, simple as!

They are nice to use for the "wow" factor compared to a monitor............but they are not monitors. 1920x1080 of space over 50" like my tv at home on htpc is not the same as 2560x1600 on a 30" monitor.

Yeh, 50" would be stupid. I will be sitting about 3-4 feet away from a 32" / 30" screen. I only have a 5770 graphics card so 2560x1600 would be for desktop only. I would down games to 1920x1080 (I dont play many games)

My main concern would be the reading of text and small icons. I mainly browse the web and use programs like Reason, Ableton and Photoshop

For Reason, isn't it best to have a 4:3 monitor?
