The War You Don't See

I suppose its no different to the islamists using the media either though, they will glorify a bloke killing a couple of soldiers but forget about the nutbar who blew up a marketplace full of women and children doing their shopping, or the family in a car blown up by an IED because they seed them in civilian areas with no regard just to kill a soldier

A lot of them are to kill the civilians as well.

its kinda worrying that there are some folk among us who believe BBC news et.al are here to report the truth. Truth is, we don't know much.

dont think an unbiased news source exists anymore, not of them are really trying to give the viewer the facts and let them form an opinion..

its always from the angle they want you to hear with the reporters opinion because viewers arent inteligent enough to make an opinion these days....

most "news" seems to be aimed at mothers wanting celeb gossip anyway i bet in 10 years time we wont here about a war unless justin bieber or someone is going over to entertain the troops

Haven't watched this yet, but I had read some of John Pilger books. He's a smart guy. The media are absolutely critical in politics and war, now more so than ever before. Anyone who thinks they can conduct foreign policy and indeed wars without considering the media as a major stakeholder is very much mistaken.

It didn't but it showed when you control the media you control the people.

I dont think it matters what the people think, how many people in this country would have voted to invade iraq? only a very small minority.. I hope all the facts and figures in that program were made up, if not its truly shocking...

There's a reason decisions to go to war aren't put to referendum.

what we did in iraq is an **** discrace, not only did we slaughter 100's of 1000's of people for no good reason we also shot DU all over their country....

I have not seen 1 good reason why we attacked them..... (iraq or afganistan)

Propaganda.

The media has the capability to shroud a nation in one sided opinions.

Pretty true, here is one comparison that always sticks in my mind:

1990, Iraq launches an unprovoked invasion of Kuwait (small rich country to the south, friends with USA/UK) in response a UN coalition led by the USA and UK liberates Kuwait and carries on into Iraq and gives them a bloody nose, the media here commends the action and we get Desert Storm sticker albums, toys, video-games, etc.

2008, Georgia (friends with USA/UK) launches an unprovoked invasion of South Ossetia (small poor country to the north) in response their Neighbour Russia liberates South Ossetia and carries on into Georgia and gives them a bloody nose, the media here condemns the action and we get debates in the house of commons, TV/Newspaper articles on how Russia launched an unprovoked attack on Georgia, and calls for more investment in our military as Russia are obviously dangerous.
