Keep 6970 or replace with a GTX 570?

May be I should put it this way...have you seen any review reporting that they managed to overclock the 6970 to 1,000MHz and beyond? Also, the current 880MHz stock clock is most likely already got clocked higher than what was planned for the launch back in November...

Have you seen any review that got to unlock the voltage control? :)

Gibbo had the 6970 running at 980 core and 6200 memory. Depending on wether or not he adjusted the overdrive I see no reason why it couldnt reach 1000 core.

Even now its still a split. I think considering its already packed and on its way I,ll stick with the 6970.Refusing the delivery is not really an option as there is other items in the order. At the end of the day if it plays everything fine including crysis (which my overclocked 5850 does) then its going to be able to cope with all the new games that come in 2011.

No, but all I'm saying is the overclock capability has already been confirmed for the GTX570, whereas 6970 is still a big question mark. Best case scenerio is that it will be "just as good" as the GTX570 on overclocking, but there is still a big chance that it wouldn't.

But like I said, as the OP has already ordered the 6970, it ain't worth the extra cost and hassle for sending the card back and get a GTX570 instead. For anyone else gaming at 1920 res or below and ordering from scratch, GTX570 would remain a better choice until 6970 get confirmation that it will match the GTX570 on overclocking, and with exception to people that are likely to upgrade their res to beyond 1920 (2560 res or going Eyefinity) in the future, who would benefit more going down the 6950/6970 path.

You can play all games on this card. Some like DiRT 2, Far Cry 2 or Hawx will play better on GTX570 (as in around 20% better) but they are not very demanding games and a few others will feel better with HD6970.

.. but if you're games already run above min 24fps on desired resolutions and settings, then anything more is just waste. It's like replacing a car that does 180mph with one that does 200mph yet the roads still only permit 70mph max..

what if the new car can get to 70mph much faster than the other tho, to me when going to new hardware playing the same games at the same fps, things just seem smoother to me....maybe its placebo. image quality maybe better on the new stuff too.

does any1 know which quarter of next year kepler/7000 series are coming out?

Keep the 6970, test it for a day or two and if you are not happy return it under Distance Sales Regulations. You will probably be very happy with the card, but if not it will only cost you return postage (£8-£10), and you will be entitled to a full refund. You could then get a 570 if needed.

Historically AMD launch new series of cards in the Winter.

For all You guys in this position, I would not worry too much, Gibbo did a great job on You all ! :D

They are Good cards and would have been "great cards" had nvidia not played their cards so well :D

Personally I think the only mistake is You could have saved £20+ if You waited a couple of weeks

I never hold with the argument to wait for the "GTXYZ" as there will always be something better around the corner

Enjoy Your cards and have a good Christmas ;)

meh cant be bothered waiting till q3 next year for the new stuff, will have to buy in the next few days. 6950x2 looks good especially since i plan to get three 28" monitors next year

I was ready to order the 6970 last night, but decided not to and wait for reviews - glad i did.

its neck on neck with a 570 - which can overclock near 580 levels - already the fastest single GPU. my other option was to go 6950 and xfire later - but this would mean a complete system overhaul as my current setup only allows x8 x8 lanes in xfire. although i will be CPU limited to an extent - i need to upgrade now - wait for the current 570 stock to go and the price will go up, wait till january and it goes up again - Gibbo has already said Nvidia arent shifting on the price.

Lucky for me then i saw the MSI (very reputable) on TWO - there are only 2 left so i ordered one ! - i dont see the price going down for a while though to £250 due to the reasons above
