Evening all

I have a dual monitor setup and i would really like to be able to have different wallpapers on each one, would i have to install a 3rd party taskbar in order to be able to do this? If so i have heard a lot of people seem to use ultramon i believe its called, is there any good free alternates as i really dont have the cash at the mo to fork out for it.

hope you can help

many thanks

Thanks guys display fusion seems to have done the trick! Just a shame you cant get a 2nd taskbar on the free version :( i swear its upped my GPU idle temp a little to but never mind hey

stitch 2 images together to the size of the 2 moninotrs. it's what i've done across one 24" and one 21" and i got different images on each screen

Display fusion allows you to stretch a big image across two monitors of different resolutions without losing aspect ratios. No need to faff about stitching them together. Or just use two seperate images and choose which one you want for either monitor.

I use Wallpaper Slideshow to display different background on my two monitors and also change them at Windows startup.

I then use MuliMon Taskbar to get a taskbar on the second monitor.

How do you deal with positioning gadgets on the second monitor when it gets enabled
I switch secondary/extended monitor (from laptop hdmi out) between a small lcd and a tv and would like desktop wall-clock gadget to be positioned on the extended monitor when it is enabled (would also like system to load monitor profile automatically for the
monitor currently attached)

Used UltraMon in the past on XP...
Moved to Display Fusion when W7 came out.

Never looked back tbh. So good I bought it!
Once you've used multiple taskbars - Very hard going back to one!

hmm..

If you want a quality software, you must pay for it, I think..

I use Actual Multiple Monitors software. It cost 30$ and it the best software for Windows 7 (64\86).

About "different wallpapers on each one" you may read there.

If all you want is different wallpaper on each monitor, the best option is the excellent freeware John’s Background Switcher

You can have different wallpaper on each monitor, have them set up to change at intervals and/or on boot, drawing from one or more folders on your hard drive, or various websearches on a wide variety of services (google & yahoo images, flickr, picasa, facebook, etc).
You can even have it create montages, postcard-like layouts and other multi-image wallpapers, or randomly choose what it does each time it refreshes. It's pretty cool.

i use ultramon, couldnt live without 2 taskbars and the option of quickly moving a window to another monitor now!

That. Ultramon is fantastic, does all the things I need. I would ignore the spam bot a couple of posts up as well :p

Ultramon works fine with wallpapers, and Actual multiple Monitors works fine with wallpapers. But objectively AMM better in supports Windows 7 features. Ask Wikipedia about it.

and no need to call me a bot...

Ultramon has recently been updated to have better W7 support I believe

I'm still using Ultramon for the extended taskbar support for the same reasons as above...once you use it you can't go back :)
