everyone says it will fit in my antec 300 but seeing that makes me think otherwise lol

Maximum video card size: 11"/279mm (Note: some video cards may block access to the adjacent hard drive bay)

Long card is loooong. 
As long as it fits your case I don't really see the problem, if anything a longer cooler should result in a quieter card which is always good...

I am sure you can carefully un-wrap it, install it, put old graphics card in the box, re-wrap and back under the tree. She will never know.
