AMD Radeon 5830 vs Geforce 460 GTX 1gb

Simple enough. Which ones better and why? Going to get one of the two, or possibly a different card with a price equivialent of them.
 
460, and id say by some margin 460's with th oc headroom are often knocking on 5850 @ stock and 5870 with good oc's, bang for buck the 460 is a no brainer out of these 2, the only other card that maybe would suit the bill is if you could find a 5850 for simular prices to a 460 1 gig.

Also the 460 gives you the option to enter 3D gaming at a later dade if you wished.

you forgot that the 5800 series also overclocks well ?

But the gain on overclocking the 5830 is not really that great, if comparing to the likes of GTX460 1GB or 6850...as the 5830 only have half the ROPs (16) of 5850/5870. Cutting back too much must have been the biggest failure on the 5830 part...

5830 is not as good as the GTX460 768MB, let alone the 1GB version.
 
was on about mainly the 5850/5870 but the 5830 does perform well with what it has , not tried the gtx460 myself just from benchmarks online not much in it tbh
 
Stock 460 = Between 5830 and 5850.

Overclocked 460 (~850Core) = Between HD5850 and GTX470.


So the 460 is the much better card for the money.

Also consider the HD6850 which is around the same price and performs very similarly.
 
i went from a gtx 460 2gb onto 2 5830's, mainly because my mobo is crossfire not sli and i got one dirt cheap and getting the other cheap 2. also 5830's have a lot of headroom they get past 5850 level's oc'd, and the fact you can do eyefinity on one and don't need 2 like gtx 460's
 
Okay, so its the 460. But as for which one? I looked into the palit sonic version but i read that some dont get shipped with a cooler, and they get really hot. I also looked at the gainward one. Both the 1gb versions. Which is the best to get?
