i already have 1 5970 in my comp.. and have some spare cash to add something to my computer... would another 5970 increase performance by much ?

To be honest, you would be better off with a 5870 for tri-fire. These cards are well priced now and one of these will scale much better than Quad-fire with a second 5970.

That said - are you finding your single 5970 is slowing you down much?

nahh its not slowing down just wondered how much performance another 1 would increase. and also then i have the eyefinity option.

The only reason to get another one really would be eyefinity, tri/quad multi GPU doesn't really scale that well except at very high resolutions.

If you have that much money to spare why are you even looking at AMD/ATI cards right now?
The top end you are looking at the nvidia offerings are much more attractive.

And no i'm not a fanboy but if I was looking to spend 100's of pounds on a GFX card right now it certainly wouldn't be an AMD given the performance of the 570's/580's

that would mean selling his 5970, therefore losing money on that and a 5970 plus a 5870 id better than any 570/580 even a single 5970 is

why exactly would you want a new card when u have a 5970 they still perform really well...

This ^^

The 5970 was one of the best purchases I have made considering it still holds up really well. The only card I might consider upgrading to would be the 6990. Given that I game as 1900*1200, I should be able to max out most games in the near future. So will probably skip to the 7xxx series.

Personally I'd spend it elsewhere on the system if need be, also maybe try and overclock your cpu a little more (though I have to admit I'm not certain if that would be a necessary overclock, I shouldn't think you are bottlenecked much, if at all).

How much ram do you have? Have you thought about an SSD or a new / another monitor?

id bosh an ssd in there, or revo to speed things up, it prob isnt ur graphics that ur thinking about, getting the ssd will speed up the load times of windows and games so will make the experience seem a whole lot faster.

Don't do it, quad fire can result in less performance and has driver issues with some games from what I have read.

But you can disable one of the cards if Quad is a problem.
And there can always be issues with drivers no matter what the setup but that don't stop playing games on PCs instead of just consoles.
