OMG @ star craft two in 3D

I literally cannot explain the effect you get in SC2 with 3D vision.

The only problem is the bottom taskbar where you build etc, is rendered too deep it seems.

However the models look REAL.
I mean like there are actual models in front of your eyes. Without exageration it looks and stimulates the mind about 4-500% more than 2D.

It is staggering how much more detail is on screen, the artists are really talented.

A viking transitioning to and from flight mode is simple breathtaking.

In this game the effect is orders of magnitude better than I expected, it will be the demo I show everyone first from now on.

I would play online like this if the menu bar were rendered correctly:(

its staggering guys, I dunno how else to put it...

I just showed my housemates GF, complete NON GAMER, HATEs sci-fi etc, she thought it was immense lol

The mouse cursor is rendered correctly in 3D and just 'works'

had heard rumours about this. 3D has never really appealed massively to me actually, especially because of lacklustre reports of how well my favorite games supported it, but starting to think a little differently now with reports like this!

my only concerns would be about how it might effect performance, and your report seems to back this up. i mean the rendering of the menu bar is something that can be patched i guess, but when it comes to concentration, seeing things as they really are, micro intensive fights, i can see it making things a little more difficult, idk. that said, would love to try the campaign in 3D and/or be watching the gsl's in 3d! that would be awesome :)

thanks for the info mate

no probs, it's so well done and looks SOOOO much better that you would find a way to play it, I don't think it would slow you down after a while.

you're right it can be patched but it raises issues with all games.
Take for example left for dead 2, not officially meant to be great in 3D yet so many users said it was.

Well I tried it and it was cool but because things like player names are rendered at screen depth it breaks up the experience.
You just don't wanna power through a game due to one small issue:(

So really it's all about completely 3D ready titles...

But yeh, if you guys could see SC2....

This is with the glasses right? It all just gives me a stinking great headache. I went to see Ice Age 3 at the cinema in 3D and ended up missing a load of it because I was in pain.

Same happens to me with games - watched some PC games in 3D at Eurogamer and the headaches returned.

Try it with streetfighter 4. Looks good with 3d specs i.e blue and red but with proper specs i can only imagine it looks frelling awesome.

I love the Nvidia 3D glasses. When I started using them I found if the depth was set higher than 50% then I lost focus but after a couple of days I can now set it much higher - just sometimes I briefly have to go cross eyed to sort things out!

Do you own GTA4? When I first saw that I immediately thought that it looked like a really detailed model railway. It's not so much the flying around skyscrapers in a helicopter aspect, it's more the level of detail up close. I've been walking (not even running) around the city just looking at it all. Walking down the stairs and into a subway station feels to me like I'm in some kind of dream and the game has come to life.

this sort of thing doesn't bode well for those who, how should i say, have a tendency to get a little too 'into' certain games!

at the same time, sounds pretty awesome! :)

The biggest problem is the hit it takes, effectively you are getting half performance, fine for lower specced games, not so much for the latest and greatest.

Ill give starcraft a whirl tonight and see how the effects are, i wasnt too impressed with Civ V, i didnt think it added anything to the game. (unlike some games)

I find that those glasses make my head/eyes hurt after a while too :(

thats because its a completely unnatural thing your asking your brain to process...really not worth the headaches/eye strain imo.

3d is only going to take off once they remove the glasses aspect and find a safer way of rendering images.

SC2 is damn good, I'll have to try it with a 3D screen sometime...

3d in games is not something I've ever paid attention to.
Do you need a 3d capable lcd like with tvs or can regular screens do it? I've got a 480 and got some 3d glasses at home from a trip to the cinema recently.

I'm sure I remember seeing a 3D screen quite a few years ago at a BT research lab - IIRC they used a curved screen and some technical wizardry.

This could have course be nonsense conjured up by years of alcohol abuse but I'm pretty certain I'm not making it up.

The cinema glasses wont work.
The cinema glasses use polarised lenses, and two projectors with differing polarisation to gain a seperate image for each eye.
The nVidia glasses (and most other home-user 3D glasses) use alternating shutterglasses, with displays that alternate frames at 120hz - providing a seperate 60hz image to each eye.
