rg-tom told me about this last night, and have decided I'm going to go.

Need to double check dates, but I'll most likely go up on the Friday night, BnB it and then have a day at focus.

Anyone else going? or be up for booking a BnB and going out the night before for a few drinks and a chinese or something and then having a day at focus?

:)

Ray, I'd imagine there will be stuff like seminars, new equipment prototypes, lets you look at different brands of wedding albums too etc :)

I reckon it'll be quite cool :)

I might go with work again like earlier this year. You probably already know this but just so you are aware, Focus is held at the NEC which is some way out of Birmingham. There is a train that goes out there, but it may be a little tricky if you decide to get a B&B in the city. I ended staying at Premier Inn (Or was it Travel Lodge? They're all the same to me.) last year, just round the corner from the NEC which wasn't too bad pricewise.

And yes ScarySquirrel, they do have booth babes. Not enough mind, but there are a few dotted around. And unfortunately the Nikon guys were keeping to good an eye on my when I was playing with the D3X and 600mmf4 combo. :(

I could take the afternoon off i suppose...never been.

But why do people go? What's there ton look at?

As Phate says, it may be worth you going, just for the wedding side of things. there are loads of manaufacturers/resellers for wedding albums and other related products. Somke really good seminars as well. The one at the PhaseOne stand last year was pretty good.

I went to the Canon Professional show in London recently and they had a few bargains, nothing earth shattering though.

Would imagine that Focus is the same just writ large, but interesting nonetheless to see such a vast array of gear.

I have a self-imposed moratorium on photographic spending so a visit to Focus would be a descent into Hell for me.

Been speaking to Tom, apparently it's not an all day event really, so going to go on Saturday and meet him there and have a good wonder round and just enjoy the day out.

Me and Him are both registered, if you have a business card you can register as trade so its free. I've asked Mark see if he wants to go, be cool if others can meet up :)

It has 100s of manufactaures from still imaging, lighting, rigs, studio, video, printing and capture. Believe me you can buy things there. Ive been 3 times. Years ago mind when it was better and Photographer Monthly had a fashion catwalk stand!

Things are suppose to be a little cheaper there but not amazingly cheaper. Its good to scout and test new products but dont under estimate how busy it will be.

Personally I think the best thing about Focus is the printing side of the function. It allows you to see hands on prints from leading products. Years ago they allowed you to use your own image to print on their machines and you could get the print if you were lucky enough. I used to come away with loads of 30"+ prints.
