Basically I've been speaking to my Dad today about COD Black Ops and how well it runs and basically he has offered me to swap my laptop for his as he thinks that Black Ops may run better on his and he won't really need the laptop for much longer and he will give my old laptop to his misses if we agree to a swap.

On Black Ops using my laptop, I've got the resolution set to 1366x786 (highest it will go on my 16" display) and I've got the texture settings set to Auto and AA turned off. The game runs fairly well using these settings but the FPS does go down a bit when their is a lot of explosions and soldiers on some levels but nothing dramatic that would make it un-playable.

We haven't been able to test Black Ops on his laptop yet and as is still using it for work but his laptop is an eMachines Core i3 330 @ 2.13Ghz, 2GB DDR3 (I will add another 2GB if I swap), NVidia GT 330M with only a 14.1" display but the resolution is also set to 1366x786.

Lastly my laptop spec is an Acer Aspire 6935G, Core 2 T6400 @ 2Ghz, 4GB DDR3 NVidia 9600M GS, 16.1" display.

Would you guys think that it would be worth the swap and would Black Ops run better with my Dad's laptop specs or not?

Thanks all - Liam

My 9600M GS is scored at 31% where as my Dad's GT 330M is scored at 41%. The GT 330M is clocked at around 135Mhz more than my 9600M GS aswell, is that a massive jump in performance?

Thanks - Liam

your dads would perform noticeably better than your laptop. the 330M is much better than the 9600GS

your dads would perform noticeably netter than your laptop. the 330M is much better than the 9600GS

Thanks for that.

I forgot to mention about the differences between the CPU's as well. I have just compared both my T6400 (800FSB) and his i3 330M (2500FSB) and they are both dual cores but I really have no idea how faster the i3 330M would be. I know as well that Black Ops is heavily processor reliant as well isn't it?

the i3 will be much better than the T6400 as well. More cache and faster speed/fsb.

Thanks a lot,

This has helped promote the swapping idea so I will be giving it a big think over tonight and see what I think tomorrow.

Thanks again guys - Liam

Yep, really is a no brainer, in terms of build quality and reliability you cant go wrong with either, acer owns emachines and they use all the same parts, the emachines is also a newer model than your acer.

Screen size is going to be the only issue but you can hook up to an external if you like.

Yeah the 14.1" display my one and only main concern and the display on my Acer is 16.1" widescreen but I can easily get used to 14.1".

The eMachines laptop that he has got has got a rare spec I think as he got it while he was in Thailand about 4 months ago. There are not that many eMachines laptops about and I have definately not seen one about in the UK with a Core i3 330, NVidia GT 330M and a 500GB HDD spec anywhere and the spec is genuine as I have looked on the system properties on his laptop.

He has just told me to bring my copy of Black Ops with me tomorrow as well to see how well it runs and see if we can swap.

Well,

We have done the deal :) We ran Black Ops on his laptop earlier on with the highest resolution set, AA 4x, automatic texture, shadows & bullets turned on and corpses set to Medium. Started the first level and it runs absolutely smoothly and it still ran smoothly throughout the whole level with all of the explosions & gun fighting. To me it feels like it runs 10x better compared to my laptop (on the first level, my laptop does lag when all the fighting starts).

I will have his laptop in my possession in a few days hopefully once he has got all of his data backed up & when he has purchased his new i7 laptop. The processor in his is actually not an i3 330m but an i3 350m instead so that is a bonus :)
