Hi,

Just pulled the trigger on a HIS 6950 to replace my dying 4870x2 and am now wondering if it will fit in my case.

I have a Thermaltake Armor MX+ case and the 4870x2 almost touches the hard drive cage at the back, there is probably a 3 mm gap left.

Is the 6950 any longer? I have found one site wich says it's 10.5" which is the same I believe as the 4870x2. Another site says it's 10.7" so that might be a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Just seen your post and it got me thinking.... I just ordered a Gigabyte GTX460 super oc and i don't think it will fit in my case either.

At the mo i have the X1900xtx and it's butted right up to the hd cage also, Thermaltake Tsunami case

All i can say is if it doesn't fit, then make it fit :) out with the hacksaw and modify the hd cage somehow, that's what i'll do :)

The 6950 is about an inch longer than my old 4870 (don't know about the x2), but the power sockets are on the top insted of the end, which makes up for some of the difference.

your going to need to take that cage out, have a 6970 and its just to long

I have a coolermaster elite 335 which is a pretty small case i think. My 6950 just about fit in (phew). I think that when i get a moment i will see if my 2 hard drives can be moved up to the top to slots to leave more room free under my 6950. I could really do with a better case with more airflow as i have a front intake fan which will now be pointed straight at the graphics card which suck up this air and dump it out the back of the case. This may mean that not much cool air is getting to the cpu cooler so i think i will now go and see what the temps are on my i7 920.

Edit: wow, i have just used real temp to check my cpu temps and they have dropped from 48-52 degrees between all cores at idle to 38-43 degrees. i think that my old 4870 must have been a bit toasy and was blowing a lot of warm air into my case. I only overclocked my i7 920 to 3.6 because of those temps so i think its time to go for 4Ghz now. :D

I've had a good hunt and still can't come up with a definitive answer on any review or product description for the lenght of the 6950. Have found 10.5", 10.7", 11.3" and 11.5"!

It wont be here til monday to try and I know my case won't take anything bigger than 10.5". Don't want to cannibalise my hd cage if it's not needed.

Have you not tried looking on the xfx or sappire website, it is listed on there. Dont worry about the card being HIS, all the cards are using the reference design.

Yeah, according to XFX it's 11.3" long but a fair few reviews I have read that have quoted dimensions have said it's shorter! I guess I will just have to wait and see if it fits on Monday.

This seems pretty definitive at just over 10 3/4". A lot of people are saying the specified size is wrong so I might just get away with it!:D

Yep, its about 10 3/4", i think the xfx dimensions include the little sticky out bit at the back of the card where the display connection are where you screw the bracket to your case.

The 6950 fitted into my Antec P182 without removing the drive cage, although I had to take the cage out to put the card in then put the cage back.
