Megahalems

I find the vipers to be pretty good on my super mega, bit louder though than when they were on my old TRUE black.

Temps with super mega + dual vipers.

Was a fairly cool evening then.

Just fired my new rig up, even at stock the Mega+single Viper fan is keeping my i5 at a cool 21 idle (ambient is 19) and 44 prime load...mental!

Can't wait to get overclocking!

Don't forget it's winter, your room will be a lot cooler, do you know what your ambiet room temp is? Your OC might be stable now, but un-stable in the summer when temp's will be a lot higher.

Ambient room temp is currently 21 degrees. Pretty much the same all year round to be honest. Central heating has pretty much been on constantly for the last couple of weeks.
Besides, depending on fan speed, my cpu sits anywhere between 60 and 70 at full load IBT @4ghz, so I dont feel that temps will be an issue.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I'm once again considering getting this cooler (Megahalems) and was just wondering if it would fit in a HAF 932 case without interfering with the side fan? Does anyone own a Megahalems and HAF 932 that could tell me?

Is the Megahalems still the best of the Prolimatech range or are the Super Mega or Armageddon the better options for someone buying now?

Thanks.

Megahalems is the best cpu cooler i have had so far tbh push pull with two 2000 rpm sharks keep my i7 860 @ 4ghz around 25-29 idle and around 41c normal ish load which in my mind is great!!

Id love to see a pic of 41c load, watercooling wont even do that. ive used sharkoon 2000 rpm fans on my 4ghz i7, full load on the hottest core was 71c, with a lapped TRUE black and a prolimatech super mega.

Lapped means sanding the base of the cooler, or cpu. The idea is to get two perfectally flat surfaces mating together, with thermal paste in between. It can help to reduce temps, but it voids the warranty on both cpu and cooler.

With my push/pull viper's on full my max temp on my 4ghz i5 is about 60 degrees, but yeah, standard profile gives about 70-72 degrees under IBT load

Hitting 64c on my hghest core thees days, cpu cooled by a super mega with twin vipers under prme 95 small fft.

I just wish my mobo fan control was better! It uses tcase temps, as opposed to tcore, so I currently have it set to maintain 45 degrees tcore, tis decent enough. Fans fire up to 100% if tcase exceeds 52 degrees

I think I have the same motherboard as you and I didn't realise it did that. That's annoying. I thought it was a pretty good motherboard too.

On a couple of side notes, does the Megahalems with 2 fans cause any problems with RAM sockets or anything else on the motherboard?

Also I see you have 470SLI, I was thinking of going 6950CF/6970CF/570SLI with this board. What's the spacing like between the 2 graphics cards? How badly does this affect the heat of the first card?
I've got the HAF 932 with a 230mm side fan as an intake fan so should blow over both cards I think, is that likely to help much?

With this in mind is there a better P55 board out there that doesn't have the tcase temp measuring issue but still has good clearance between graphics cards?

I've also read up and it seems my current cooler (CM Hyper 212+) isn't that far behind the Megahalems, so I might keep that and add a second fan to make it push/pull. My 2 questions here are:
1) Do all heatsinks benefit the same amount from push/pull as single fan configuration? (i.e. do they all gain 15% performance)
2) The 212+ is currently using a CoolerMaster BladeMaster 120 fan. These are harder (though not impossible) to come by. Does anyone know if they're any good (I can't find any reviews) or would I be better off replacing them with a couple of Apaches/Vipers/Gentle Typhoons? (Do GTs work as well on heatsinks as radiators?)

Thanks.

My top card is only running 4 degrees hotter since adding the second, as there's a decent amount of space between (1 empty slot). Having a 230mm side fan will definitely assist in keeping both cool.

With regards to push/pull setup's, the second fan is installed between the heatsink and the exhausts, so there's nothing to be obstructed.

Also, the 212+ is a good heatsink, but as overclocks, and therefore temps increase, the megahalems tends to pull ahead. However, it's also a fair bit bigger and a lot more expensive!
