Put card in cash machine and then saw the screen sorry temporary out of service! The cash machine has taken my card and not given it back. Will see what the bank say monday morning,if they have to send me another card and pin number i doubt if i will get it sorted for christmas. So looks like we are going to be stuck for money as my wife has very little left .

dude, that's how fraud can happen on your card. It's how my friends card and her details got stolen. You can get the card back straight away if you go into the bank and ask for it back. That's what my friend did and the guy opened the machine to check but it wasn't there, some thieves put some sort of card holder in the machine, when the machine tried to give the card back, the thieves device locked it in place, when we went into the bank, the thieves came and took the card and their device.

Yup, do what Dmack and Diamond have said. If you can't do that for whatever reason, can you transfer some money into your wife's account online?

Codec's post above is probably unlikely in this case, but you can still cancel the card in question and still withdraw from bank (see 2nd and 3rd post)

Some people and there financial management really astound me, don't you have more than 1 account ? online banking ? it would take me all of about 30 seconds when i got home to sort that out, then just wait for another card for the subject account.

just get cash out at the bank ?

if for some reason you dont want to carry cash then just transfer a lump of it to your wifes account online and then use her card

Ring the bank, cancel your card if you're worried about what codec said.

As others have said, take some ID and a bank statement to the bank and you can take money out from one of the cashiers. Had my card eaten several times and I've done this.

What sort of cash machine was it? Connected to a bank? Or on the front of a regular store? If it was a bank then if you go into the bank and explain what has happened or ring them they should take your account number/name etc and the next time the machine is emptied usually the next day they will give you back the card. I used to work for a bank, it's at their discretion.

this happened to me once, on a bank holiday, came to england to see the family and the machine was faulty and ate my card, lucky enough i had put my wife on my account 3 weeks earlier and hse had her card otherwise id have been knackered as i banked with isle of man bank at the time and fps wanst available then

transfering money over the phone and online now is instant so you should have no problem moving money around

Thankfully I never got my card taken but I had walked to the cash machine to get cash out.

Put my card in and popped the pin in, chose balance and cash.....then it gave me my card back and went into out of service mode :( I never got a tasty india takeaway that night !
