GTX295 vs GTX460 1Gb

Yes... but... older tech, reliance on SLI, less VRAM, higher power use/heat output. Clock the 460 to around 850MHz and it won't be hideously behind the 295. (Tho off the top of my head I think you need about 1000MHz to match it in every case, but 850 will get you close based on average SLI scaling).

Well im considering one of the ones on MM. For £100, if i like it i can keep it and flog the GTX460 i have now. If not sell on the GTX295. Shouldnt actually cost me anything.

However one slight snag is i think a GTX295 will foul the SATA slots on my mobo

EDIT : Nope it wouldnt ive just checked :)

Yeah even without looking at benchmarks I know of the top of my head a GTX295 would crush a single GTX460 like Robbie Coltrane sitting on Victoria sponge cake.

it's no contest. a game that supports SLI will rip through the 460.

consider this. the 460 even clocked very high is like a 285 GTX.

GTX460 @ 810MHz is comparable with a GTX470 which is way faster than a 285. Infact its more or less on par with stock 260 SLI which is a little slower than a GTX295. Your not realistically gonna catch up a 295 overall but given average SLI scaling you will get into the same ballpark with a well clocked 460.

Pleased to read this, as I've just splashed out £120 on a PNY GTX460 OC XLR8. Thinking it should be a nice upgrade from my 4870, but been befuzzled by all the recent price fluctuation (£125 for a 5850, £150 for a Talon Attack 460, <£200 for a 470...).

I'm hoping to clock it up a bit more, ideally to around 850-900 core. Then I was thinking that my whole rig (Q6600 @ 3.5GHz, 4GB) would see me through next year gaming on high settings at 1680x1050.

I'm guessing it will be at least a year or more anyway before anything really overpowers a clocked 460 at that res?
