How many of you get the ol ice scraper out in the mornings to clear your windscreen?

On my estate (new build rather than chavo), all of them get the ice scraper out in the mornings and scrape away with the windscreen on defrost for 10/15 mins using up petrol/electricity/elbow grease etc.

I'm the only person who just throws a cloth (I think it was a old table cloth once) over my windscreen at night, and in the morning, I just pull off the cloth and I'm ready to go with a frost free windscreen / rear screen. The heavier the cloth, the better. Then when I get back from work, I just throw the cloth over the windscreen again, and I'm ready for the next day.

Why doesn't anyone else do this?

So, in bid to help out any of the uninformed, I'm going to be selling some old rags *cough* I mean, Amazing Anti Freezing Windscreen Device (TM) for the bargain price of £49.99 + £4.95 P&P (10% discount for OCUK members) so you can prevent your windscreen freezing over every morning!

Send me your cash at [email protected]

Please feel free to email me the exact make and model of your car for fitting/size purposes.

Disclaimer: seller does not warrant that any rag/cloth supplied will not have old stains on them. Even if buyer supplies make/model of car, buyer will only receive whatever old rag/spare piece of cloth that's hanging about in my garage, bottom of the cupboard etc

I'm told a piece of carpet/cardboard works better, as rags/sheets tend to freeze up themselves and end up damp by the time they thaw.

Heated windscreens ***, though.

On this subject, my 15 year old volvo manages to clear it's windscreen in a matter of minutes? So I can only assume most modern cars can also do this?

Neil, My VXR used to do that if it was really cold, as it used to quite commonly suffer from heavy condensation/mist on the inside. I used some Fog-X on the inside which stopped the fogging/condensation, and thus helped stop the freezing up.

I use an old Greenhouse Electric Heater with a Thermostatic switch mounted on plywood and left on the back seat or in the boot, clear windows and a toasty interior too! Only downside is the faffing about with an extension lead if you need to rush out somewhere.

15 minutes? You've got to be doing something wrong if it takes that long.

Takes about 2 minutes and I'm not a big girls blouse so its never bothered me

Are the stains smelly? If so, are they good smells?!

Mmmmm.....I did see a cloth some brown stains on it the other day. But just treat any stain/smell as a 'surprise' when the product arrives - it is after all, Christmas!

What about the inside of my screen? it ices up near enough as the same as the outside! :p

Neil.

Probably a water leak somewhere in your car. Speak to a mechanic. Or a buy a dehumidifier from B&Q!

Sorry, I've got a patent pending on that. You try bringing that to the mass market and I'm going sue!

Spammer, ban him!

Okay, you can have one for half price.

i remember when i thought it would be a good idea to put newspaper on my window to stop it freezing, next day i thought i would pull it off easily, took ages to get bits offrozen wet paper from the windscreen

That's why my Amazing Windscreen Anti-Freezing Device (TM) is much better - my R&D department have developed the molecules of the material in such a way that it naturally creates a thin insulating layer of air between the cloth and the windscreen. No sticking guaranteed!

I just poor lukewarm water over the windows :p

The problem is that is that in sub-zero temperatures, any water you've poured onto your windscreen freezes 500 yards down the road, which means you need the whole 'car running for 10 mins' to defrost thing going first.

Aye, I just use my deicer spray the night before and just put a fine mist on the screen, works a treat.

Save on spray and buy the device instead!
