Need a Short Break in the UK

Hey guys, I need help. Im working overseas and will be back home over xmas. I dont have any lodgings in the UK so me and my girlfriend will be staying at my mums house. Whilst Ive got no real complaints, I want to try and get away so its just me and my girlfriend. Im struggling for ideas, looking for just 2 nights somewhere. City or countryside, it doesnt matter. It has to be in the UK as my gf needs a visa to go to other euro countries. Any suggestions? Cheers :)
 
If I was lucky enough to dash away at this time of the year it would be either York or Edinburgh.

Depends a bit on what sort of thing you enjoy?
 
Budget? I know some amazing places if you're looking for something special. If it's something more casual, go to the lake district or Scotland.
 
Budget, around £500 for both of us? Im flexible.
I will be travelling from Wokingham (south east) and Im hoping that the weather wont be causing any mayhem by then. Id be driving if the weather wasnt too bad, maybe taking the train if the roads are hazardous.

Belfast? I'm assuming by your location that your lady is American. If so, she will most likely love NI. Stay in Belfast for a few days with a day spent heading up along the north Antrim coast. The scenery is stunning, there's loads of touristey things to do such as Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, Giants Causeway, Bushmills distillery tour etc.

no really your best bet would be a city break i would have thought with all the snow and that, as the roads will be dreadfull in the country?

Judging but his location his lady appears to be Australian no? NW Australian.
 
Thanks for the ideas guys. Im actually in Western Australia at the moment. My gf is Filipino but lives and works in the UK, she had a Schengen visa but it has run out. Its ubelievable how difficult the world makes it for Filipinos to go anywhere, including the educated, honest hard working ones :(
I was thinking of Leeds for a city break too, any good? Id love to go to Edinburgh but will see what the weather is like first. Ireland sounds great too, will look into it. Looking at going just after new years.
