I bought some Berghaus gloves a few weeks back and they can't really hack the cold.

I was looking at some North Face Pamir Windstopper gloves, but does anyone have any recommendations?

Likewise I've lost my walking boots and apart from wanting to start hiking again; it's always good to have a pair in standby. So again, any recommendations?

An outdoor shop? Might sound obvious but boots fit individual feet so no point recommending any... Any decent outdoor shop (Cotswold, Ellis Brigham, snow and rock and potentially Blacks) will have a good selection. Then try the ones you can afford and you're off. Same with gloves, most types are much of a muchness, disregarding brands mostly. If the thinner windstopper ones are too cold then get a pair of ski gloves instead. :)

I have the Windstopper gloves, they are pretty good but I can still feel the cold through them sometimes. Their main advantage is that they are very warm whilst not being too big and bulky, and they have tactile grip on the palm and fingers. So I can put them on and still drive the car for example.

Get some eXtremities gloves. You can pick them up pretty cheap and are very good. I wear eXtremities Velo gloves.

As for boots, I just have a pair of leather karrimors for everyday use, they do the job.

Do you need gloves (i.e. individual finger) or would mittens do? Mittens tend to be much warmer and unless you need individual digit operation should be fine. How much do you want to spend on them? You can buy Gore-Tex gloves (or equivalent materials) which ought to be great but they're £XX more than other options, it is however worth getting gloves/mittens with removable liners as you can then dry them out much easier.

Neoprene Gloves, when you find out how good they are, you'll want the neoprene socks too.

Actually I was just looking at some North Face mittens.

I don't need any flexibility as I have the Berghaus gloves for milder situations :)

Regarding boots; I know that I should try them prior to buying, however I just wanted some advice!

To be fair, it all really depends on what you're going to use them for. If you are going to use them for hiking, then yes, I would put more effort into getting a decent pair, maybe get them fitted and get expert advice.

If you're just going to use them to walk the streets when the weather is bad, most will suffice, as long as they're well built. I have several pairs myself, Karri's for everyday street use (they even do for walks/light hill walking), Scarpas for mountain trails/hiking, I forget what my 3rd pair are, but they're just for gardening and the likes.
