UK government proposes to block all Internet porn as standard

Has anyone else noticed that this beginning of what is effectively internet censorship is extremely convenient after WikiLeaks released those documents?

It should be filtered somehow as theres too much information that a child can access 18+ content and that's not just the Internet. I fear for safety for children in the UK due to how easy it is.

No, it really should not. It should absolutely be left to the parents to sort themselves out and put sufficient restrictions in place on their child's computer. Why should everyone else suffer because some people are too irresponsible to safeguard their children from such things?

This whole situation reminds me of that young girl recently who used to go on webcam to random strangers online, and a huge drama ensued after she said a few wrong things to some people. What followed was a tirade of abuse and death threats which prompted the parents to get the police involved. A few weeks later and guess what, she was back online on webcam to strangers again (some even showing her parents in the background, not caring).

It is 100% the parents at fault here, not the content found online. If you think otherwise then you obviously don't care about Internet censorship creeping in, which in my opinion is ridiculous.

What on earth are they thinking ?

Damage to kids from stumbling into porn, hahahahaha, that's a good one... Morons...

Well this will probably be about as effective as trying to block all the music on Youtube...

Even so, if kids don't 'stumble' upon porn then odds are they'd have more sexual tension, and then you'd have more problem kids on your hands.

Yet another example of how little this government actually thinks things through.

God this is going to be embarrasing, asking my parents for permission to go on porn sites. What with me being 33 an all that.

This just goes to prove that politicians are a different species to us.
I agree with you there...

On vodafone they block adult sites by default for web access I found.

I couldn't get onto sites like Sickipedia, etc for grabbing jokes as this was classed as adult too.

It simply involved logging into my vodafone account and choosing the option "yes" to enabling adult sites and removing the default lock. So long as the option is there to disable it and it is easy enough to do so I don't really see it as a problem.

Kids can then just revert back to stealing their parents Littlewoods catalog for the underwear section. Unless they remove that too

All it takes is for one kid to have access to porn, and he'll just sell it/give it to his mates who don't have access. I remember people selling floppy discs full of porn back in school for those that didn't have the net.

I'm a parent with 2 teenage sons. When they were too young I put restrictions in place and installed netnanny, just to be sure.Even though they both knew I'd find out if they tried searching for it,it didn't stop them trying :D

I can see how these proposals will help hapless parents with little / no tech knowledge but isn't this besides the point? Kids will find a way round it,dads will want to opt in rendering the whole thing pointless anyway. Also, who the hell decided that children viewing porn causes deranged kids anyway? The ****-poor parenting the child has received has already done the damage.

Very likely to be the thin edge of a thick wedge (to use a cliché), when it comes to internet censorship. Once they have forced the ISPs to implement the technical measures to provide pornographic censorship, then it will be extended to sites for suicide, violence.

Then sites that violate court orders, or foreign sites that are libellous and reveal state secrets.

And it will be for your own good.

What have you got to hide - you don't need curtains in your bedroom any more. Delegate your ability to make moral and ethical decisions to Big Brother! You shouldn't have to see the big, bad real world.
