Was just about to buy a bargain on eBay, waited to the last 10 seconds to bid, click "place bid" and the damn site had logged me out :(

By the time I log in the listing has ended, *way* under what I was prepared to bid. Someone got a total bargain.

Epic fail on my part, forgetting that eBay would sign my out. I'd been watching that listing all ***** day too :/

What do you do when you've just done something really stupid, and you're absolutely furious with yourself?
 
So why didn't you just bid whatever you were prepared to bid for it immediately, rather than waiting for the last £10 seconds?

You end up paying more that way. You must have heard of "bidding wars" right? Well the way to stop either yourself or your competition getting into a bidding war is to bid in the last 10 seconds or so.
 
I always make sure to double check that I'm logged in when there's about 30 seconds left.

But if you were prepared to pay £50 and the bidding was only at £20 with you as the highest bidder, and someone tries to snipe you with 10 seconds to go, either he will outbid you and you would have lost anyway, or he would probably be timed out when he realised his bid was too low?

If you were prepared to pay £x then it doesn't matter if the price was slightly higher. Who cares about bidding wars if you are paying anything up to your maxumum price? If he beats your maximum bid then it just means they wanted it more than you did.

the other guy might be willing to pay £51 though , but of course the less he pays the better for him so he is also waiting till the end , so the OPs only chance of beating him is to 'snipe' the bid .
 
Yeah bidding wars are mad, people end up paying more than they would if they bought the item brand new, just so they can win the auction :D.

Not really because if the other guy is willing to pay £51 then even if my man up top wanted to snipe to his limit of £50 then he would still have lost.

Maybe it's just me though. When I bid, I bid. If I lose, I lose and find something else to buy. If I win then as long as I haven't paid more than I was willing to pay then I'm happy.
