Any Altberg boot owners here?

My current pair of boots are beginning to fall apart. Rather than repair them I've decided to get some better made boots. Someone recommended Altberg boots. Does anyone here own a pair? Are they worth the money?

What do you need them for?

got a pair of altberg sneekers, altbergs are very well built boots.

i'm not sure what style of boot you are after but if its any help, the sneekers are so lightweight for a leather boot, very flexible and allow for great range of movement and very comfortable.
however the sneekers offer very little ankle support.

love my altbergs, £130 2 years ago still going strong after many TABs and exercises.

had mine 12 years, made to measure, best £160 spent.
Did you have to travel to the factory to get that done or do local shoe retailers offer this service?

I need a pair of black shoes for work (I work in a pub). They need to be smart(ish), comfortable and durable. Something like this would be smart enough:

Might be a bit overkill tbh.. I was going to say (has been a few years mind) that I used to own a pair of Altberg defenders (not gortex lined ones) and thought they were excellent - though this was in a military context.

You'll certainly get a nice durable/comfortable pair of boots but, for bar work, you might as well pop down to your local army surplus store and pick up something a bit cheaper.

got altberg defenders as well, much prefer them to lowas (or any other boot tried) for everyday use.

Tried my local army surplus store. They didn't have anything appropriate.

What's a TAB exercise? Territorial Army?

I have a pair of Altberg Clubman bike boots. The best boots I have ever owned and I've had them refurbished twice over the last 4 years.
They can be slow to deal with if you want something not in stock, but the quality is amazing. I've never had wet feet on the bike since owning them, and that is having commuted all year round in utterly appalling weather.

TA!!! GOD NO!! i'm regs!

a TAB is a weighted long distance march.
exercise is just that, a field exercise to put our training to use, usually spending days/weeks on end out in the nastiest places the army can find.

I went to the Altberg factory in Richmond just last week so that my mate who's in the Army could have a pair of Defenders made. They had the correct size for him off the shelf, he tried them on and said he much preferred the feel of the Lowa's he already has a pair of but were worn after 6 years. He ended up leaving them and bought a pair of Lowa's on the way home from an army surplus store in Darlington.

The factory was much smaller than I was expecting!

hahaha!

second to none in my opinion, they are specificly designed with that in mind.
makes kneeling and moving about in situations like that so easy, i find most boots(issue ones for example) very restricting for situations like that.

its like having the benefits of a rugged boot but having the maneuverability close to that of a trainer.

i would definitly reccomend trying a pair on if you can, when spending that money on a boot i wouldnt go blindly buying on others opinions unless to option of return is guarenteed.

lowas are great boots, good for tough conditions but are in my opinion clunky and over-engineered.

i have lowa combat GTX and they only come out in the sort of conditions we've been having recently.
