do console games ever look better than pc to you?

I know PC has better detail/resolution/lighting etc etc but some games I find look as good/ better on the xbox/ps3 than on the pc
I think it's because the detail on the PC shows up the imperfections more, whereas on a console it just looks smudged/blended, but still very impressive/lifelike when sitting 8ft or whatever from the TV

I mean I'm considering getting NFS Hot Pursuit and trying to decide whether to get it on xbox or pc, even though i have a 360 controller for the PC, and the PC connected to the same TV as the xbox i can just see it being more fun on the console

anyone else think like this ??

As you say, for playing it on a TV 8ft away you probably won't be able to pick out all the extra detail provided by the PC.

But that said - if you already have a gaming PC that can run the game well - then you may as well pick it up for the PC as it will almost certainly be cheaper, patched faster and run better (depending on your PC spec).

just get it for the xbox. no bother with compatibly then, patches etc.

I've not had an issue with compatibility on the PC for years now, and I can't remember the last time I manually installed a patch.

If you've got a capable PC hooked up to your TV, and a pad the gameplay experience is generally going to be 99% the same. I'm not sure how it would be more fun (or any different) on the console.

What andi says regarding price and patches generally runs true as well. Although you get the odd developer screwing with the prices, and delaying patches until all platforms are ready.

Obviously, there's two sides to the coin. Some PC games end up being dreadful neglected ports, though they seem to be much more in the minority now, and often the online community for some games tends to be smaller on the PC I find.

If you don't want the hasstle of patching, compatability issues, possible crashes and so on, just get it on the 360, the PC graphics ARE going to be better than a console as there are more variable options to change than on the console altering the level of detail, shadow and so on.

For simplicity of play and go, console all the way IMHO...

I think you may be overstating the problems with PC gaming a bit here, tbh.

Patching - Use steam - pretty much all major PC games are sold through this system and patching (and even graphics cards drivers for AMD/ATI cards) are handled through steam, so no hassle.

Compatibility issues - If you have a gaming rig where the parts have been selected properly, constructed correctly and set up and configured correctly then you won't have much problem in this area either. To minimise any problems go for a single GPU graphics setup and at least a tri core CPU.

Crashes - if you have configured your PC correctly then crashes are going to be a rare occurance - and likely in line with the rate of crashing on consoles. The first game I have had a proper issue with crashes in recent years is Fallout: New Vegas - which from what I hear was just as bad on consoles. When one of the early patches arrived (which was downloaded and installed automatically by steam) these problems went away.

It is true that consoles are simpler to use - if this appeals then this is great. However using a gaming PC does not require a masters degree in computer science - and will offer a gaming experience with more detail, better performance and much more variety, however the setup cost is admittedly much higher.

The only games I've ever had issues with are Oblivion and Fallout, games I've also had on the 360 and had just as many problems which I couldn't spend 5 minutes finding a fix someone has made.

Yeah, run smother, its ok sitting 2 feet away from a pc screen but put that on a lcd tv and sit 8 feet away and its wrong.

Ever wonder why console games still sell well because they do their job, simple interaction and output with a tv. end of.

I agree, the point I was just trying to get across was, if you want to make it as simplistic as possible with an enjoyable gaming experience go for the console, I moved over to console gaming about 3 1/2 years ago now after getting fed up with overpriced pc upgrades to play the latest games and so on and have been mostly happy with it, however the flexability pc gaming gives you is lost such as mods, 3rd party community support, variety etc, its just a personal preference really.

But bottom line is, PC games on a decent setup will ALWAYS look better than on a console, but if you are happy with with how it looks on the 360 go for it on that, it would be my choice and my PC is a pretty decent spec, non the less console would be where I'd go.

Well I would say the PC gives me better visuals than console systems. I only have an xbox 360 for the gameplay, never for the graphics, if you expect stunning visuals from a console you will obviously be disappointed.

As everyone knows that technology is always improving itself, I can upgrade my pc any time I want, unlike a console your stuck on the same spec and the game has to be dumbed down for good frame rates.

Pc always looks better but the difference is often less than people like to think. Even recently I found that running games such as metro 2033 and just cause 2 on a gtx 260 just wasn't good enough. Sure, I could turn the settings down to console level but I have a ps3 for that. For the hardware, many console games look amazing. Pc games don't look amazing for the hardware they sometimes need. Looking back, I don't know why I didn't get an xbox 360 on release. I still like both but seem to be on the ps3 more. I think when the next gen consoles come out, I'll probably get all of them considering how many Years they are around for.

you're right, it just seems wrong
COD games are more fun to me on XBOX even though I'm rubbish with the pad, prefer the pc for online COD tho

Best way is to not play games on a PC, that way you don't realise what you're missing :D

A bit disingenuous. It is not as bad as you have described. Consoles are easier to use but I do believe you also have to Patch games and the console.

Its pointless comparing cosoles to pc's.

This.
Two totally different experiences for me as my 360 gets played on my 40" Sammy & i am in my Ghetto home made cockpit a fair way back where as my PC is played on a 19" Benq & i am sat up my desk so it's close.
For sharpness & pin point accuracy on FPS my PC pawns but for involvement whilst racing my 360 pawns. I do have a Black momo & Rfactor for my PC so i am talking from experience.
Like i said earlier 2 totally different experinces.

The sad truth is that the majority of games are made for consoles nowadays and the pc gets shoddy ports. Unless you have the latest equipment, the game is likely to run worse and look not much better than it's console counterpart.
PC is always an afterthought, a last ditch attempt to milk the last few pound out of a developers cash cow.
Such a shame, the pc is a great gaming platform, I love how it's constantly evolving and pushing things forward but there are just so few developers that respect it nowadays.

also dont forget the social aspect. with a console you can get all your mates round few beers etc and play the game together.

doesn't happen so much with pc games tho.

There's a lot of posts turning this into a pointless free for all PC vs Console thread now...

"do console games ever look better than pc to you?"

Answer = On capable hardware, not often.

Is it significant over a long viewing distance? Probably not.
