Best slim Rad

I currently have a Fractal define R2 case with a PA120.2 rad planted on the top......which looks utterly rubbish. I tried fitting it inside but it's too deep to go on the top (it hits the top of the mobo which has cooling fins on it....P5Q-E) & my PSU (Gigabyte Odin 1200) is so big the rad won't go on the bottom.

I figure I can fit a slimmer rad inside the case, even if the fans have to go outside, the question is :-

What is the best 120.2 SLIM rad & will I notice a huge difference compared to what is the pretty well rated PA120.2?

I'm prepared to take a little bit of a hit temps wise if I can get the case looking a bit better, but not too much ;)

the loop currently consists of :-

Laing DDC 18w with XSPC rad/top
Fuzion v2, soon to be replaced with EK Supreme
PA120.2
1/2" id 3/4" od tubing.

So as you see, it's only a CPU loop & will probably remain that way.

Cheers in advance for any help.

Swiftech Radbox and put it on the back. Only problem I can see is that the gpu will exhaust onto the rad so you'll need to watercool that too!

can you not put it in the front?

could get a couple of 120 rads in there instead

I've seen similar done but it seems very tight & tbh I'd rather have it in the top if poss.

@Mike

I really don't want to W/C a crappy 5770, getting a 5850 soon but still don't really want to.

Perhaps I could fit a 120 on the back & a 120 elsewhere inside the case & that should give about the same performance shouldn't it?

Depending on your cpu, usual load, and overclock a 120.1 may beenough. I cooled a 24/7 fully-loaded Q6600 at 3.2 and 1.44v (high vid and serious vdroop) on an ancient Black Ice Extreme with no problems keeping the temp around the 50c mark.

A 120.1 is still a lot of cooling for a cpu alone.

the only slim/stealth rads I know of are the Black Ice GT (from OcUK) and the XSPC RS240 (well the RS series but the RS240 is the 240mm variant).

Not sure how the cooling capacity differs from your existing rad though.

What is a Swiftech Radbox by the way? (I'm sure this has been discussed before, I'm sure I even knew at one point)

The only difference between thick and thin rads, well apart from the obvious, is the fpi (fins per inch).

Slimmer rads, generally require you to run your fans slightly faster, 1000rpm on average. There is nothing wrong with using them, they still cool very very well indeed.

The Swiftech MCR 220 rad seems to get good write ups and can be found pretty cheap new or used.

A Swiftech Radbox is a fitting that allows the attachment of a radiator to the rear of the case. Nice bit of kit which makes mounting any radiator to any case a breeze

Ah yeah, rings a bell now.
I think the "Koolance BKT-HX001 Radiator Mounting Bracket with Quick-Release" does the same thing, but I would imagine in a more complicated way.

Black Ice GT Stealth 240 Radiator......is this one any good, it's the only slim one OCUK sell.

Needs fast/noisy fans to get decent performance out of. I know we all love OcUk but you are allowed to buy from other places too you know. ;)
