I've noticed that a few of my Hotmail accounts got 'locked out' recently for to many password attempts. I don't have any viruses or anything so I don't really know how this happened.

Did anyone else get locked out of there hotmail lately?

Cheers

Strange. I did a Google and it appears that quite a few other people had the same lockouts. Maybe some big email list got leaked online and hackers got there hands on it?

This could mean 1 of 2 things.

1. You were drunk one night, forgot your password, spammed the password field with hate and forgot all about it.

2. You have used your hotmail address to join another site with a different password and others have gotten this information.

I just asked my mate and he also got locked out twice in a week, so it has to be a problem with Hotmail or something.

Cheers

Wasn't there a massive password databse leak? A lot of bruteforcing has been going on using that database.

i "lost" a hotmail account that way...

kept on being "locked out", and after 30 days, they deleted the account altogether because it "wasnt being used"/"not logged in for 30 days"....

never got another account since then

i always suspected it was being brute forced, and also to keep me out, then when msn deleted the account, they re-registered it... shame, it was a good short email addy, which I had since 1996 when it launched as "hotmail" before the microsoft takeover....

I had this problem the other day. Assuming you've scanned your computer for viruses and spyware, go to your hotmail account settings, under 'password reset information' check if there's an email address set for password recovery.

Basically my account had an unknown email address set to receive the password reset information, so if I did reset my password, this person would receive that info via their email.

Funnily enough It appeared I had to know the log-in to that persons email to remove them from my settings. Although if you click 'remove' then 'remove all your information' it sets that email as 'lost' so that person will no longer receive any info, then of course reset your passwords!

Mine got locked out a few weeks ago. Was no trouble to get unlocked though. I use hotmail for two reaons, first it is my "spam" account that I use to sign up for websites I don't trust/care etc. and also for sentimentality reasons.. I had my hotmail account when it was still called HoTMaiL - i.e. LONG before MS bought it. :) Nearly 20 years. Ouch, I feel old.

It won't be your computer, it'll be someone elsewhere trying to hi-jack your account.
