The only items that are really worth getting in January sales are clothing/fashion because it works on the basis of seasons and they need to get rid of all that stock after Xmas. That said, if there is something you actually really want, you are chancing it by waiting for sales, thus these kind of sales tend to be people looking for a bargain without knowing specifically what they are looking for.
As for other retailers, some maybe offer a small discount on their products, but at the end of the day, most technology goods don't get updated in seasons like fashion does. So they aren't going to shift all their TVs because they are replacing them all with new stock.
Sofa places only discount their seasonal furniture, which as I learned when buying a Sofa from DFS last year tends to be the stuff nobody actually wants. The stuff that they sell day in day out is never on sale.
I just don't get what people expect from sales anymore.
It was like the American 'Black Friday' thing a few weeks back when everybody was moaning that they thought Apple would be slashing all their prices.
