Bally Hell, Balderdash and Fiddlesticks!

Goofbay auction sniping has 'won' me several auctions a good bit below what I'm prepared to pay. Just set it to bid in the last few seconds and avoid getting into a bidding war/ballsing up your last minute bid.

Not really because if the other guy is willing to pay £51 then even if my man up top wanted to snipe to his limit of £50 then he would still have lost.

Maybe it's just me though. When I bid, I bid. If I lose, I lose and find something else to buy. If I win then as long as I haven't paid more than I was willing to pay then I'm happy.
It's probably just you.

I don't know why you would bid the ceiling of what you're willing to pay immediately, surely it just makes sense to lowball and then work your way up. You either save money or are outbid, which would happen even in your scenario as everyone has pre-defined 'limits'.

I can't think of the words to truly justify, just how little I care about what you've been through.

Enough to post tho, apparently.

I can never understand why people make these kind of comments. At least try some humour next time, ja?

The best way is to have 2 windows open, one with the live countdown timer and one with your mouse hovering over the "confirm bid" button. Bid in the last 2 seconds (or 1 if your brave) and hope you don't lag
Earned myself a few bargains this way.
Plus if your outbid then you cant get that winning urge and bid more than you originally intended.

What do you do when you've just done something really stupid, and you're absolutely furious with yourself?

I tell the wife to go upstairs and wait for me. Great stress reliever!

Auction sniper - much simpler.

I'm the same, if you are prepared to pay a certain amount for an item and no more, then just bid it and be done with it

that way you are not tempted into saying..ah just one more pound then

Because, if we take eBay for example, you don't automatically pay your highest bid. It automatically snipes for you, paying £1 more than the new bid until you reach your limit.

however, the earlier you place a bid, the more opportunity your opponents have to place a higher bid respectively.

If you early-bid (any time before the very last few seconds), you let everyone else who bid early know that they just got out-bid, and you'll now have 12 inexperienced bidders acting on emotion, not logic, trying to outbid you just for the sake of it. That's called "auction fever."
QED.
