Steam christmas sale 2010... *twitch*

Is the Oddworld pack worth it? Cant help but think its a bit too old - think I have the first two via PSN+ on my PS3 too...

My buys today should be:
Super Meat Boy
POP Trilogy
Fear Complete

Ill look at packs on Jan 2nd :p

Is FEAR worth it for someone of my ilk (ie. easily scared)? Would I even be able to finish a single level? :)

I got halfway through the first one. I loved the bullet time and accurate mechanics.

Is it scary?

I thought so. Not in a Doom 3 MONSTERS :O kind of way, but in a creepy psychological way.

F1 2010 + Fallout3 GOTY are slightly cheaper @ retail!!!

This is very often the case with Steam sales actually, though it's normally only a couple of quid in it, many of the 'bargains' Steam put up are just bringing themselves in line with retail pricing but everyone still jumps on it so you can hardly blame them :p

One of the first things I do when something appears in a sale that I want, is check find-games and see how much retail copies are going for in comparison. It's usually a lot closer than I think many people realise. A good recent example is Just Cause 2 - everyone lept on it at a fiver but it's been available retail for under £8 at a lot of online retailers for ages, a fiver was hardly ultra cheap in comparison, certainly somewhat less of a deal than the massive percentage off you see on Steam first implies.

I'm probably going to get shot down for this one here!! But is BFBC2 worth getting from steam? Or just get it on the cheap for the 360/PS3?

I wouldn't recommend FEAR. It was ok at the time (and the A.I. is still pretty fun to play against) but the level design is appalling, the story is terrible, the characters are boring and it is incredibly repetitive.

Ok i have had basically none of the games there any deals i should really be looking at games with less graphicaly requirements would be good aint got a Laptop.

Not sure if it is worth me getting fear? Don't think I will since I have got many other games to play anyway...so many games...so little time / life sucks :(

I think quite a few people, me included, are happy to pay a small difference if I can get it on Steam rather than retail - obviously it makes sense with Steamworks games that going retail is the best way though as are usually cheaper.

I just prefer using Steam as my only gaming client and have on multiple occasions rebought retail games just so its on Steam...

The THQ pack for £35 is probably the best deal I've seen. Worth it alone for the Dawn of War's, the original being what I consider to be the greatest ever PC game.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I prefer buying on Steam too but it should come as no surprise to people that most of these 'fantastic' prices are usually matched or at least close elsewhere and not just for a single day at a time :p

Fallout 3 GOTY for example is cheaper at 6 different retailers than it is on a one day sale on Steam if you're not fussed about having it on Steam :p

edit - essentially what i'm getting at is, these sales more often than not just reduce games to the general going rate, rather than being particularly spectacular deals, people should be aware of that before getting over excited and buying things on impulse because it's a deal, when it probably isn't really and the game has probably cost that much for the last 6 months anyway :p

This. The service offered on Steam is worth the premium. :) (excluding Steamworks titles etc. etc.)

Even on release day, I'm happy to pay a fiver or so for a Steam game over a retail copy. All that I'll end up doing down the line is buying it on Steam when it's on sale anyway, and that saving will turn into a loss. :p

Same here, although this is only for older retail games (e.g. Evil Genius or AVP 1) when they are on sale, so it is really cheap, and is worth it for the extra convenience.
