Finished the Mongol Rally!

What a small world it is, we were talking to my wifes friend this week and he told me how he did the Mongol Rally this year. They did it in a white saxo , he said they had to do the last 500 miles on the back of dirt bikes because their car died.

His name is nick from new hampshire and he did it with a girl from California if they ring any bells ? :)

I don't think we saw a white saxo! A multicoloured one, and a blue, but not a white unfortunately.

Long live the Saxo.

Although surprising car of the rally was the Nissan Micra. A team of 3 cars hammered the hell out of theirs, and they all made it in one piece

I think I've just thought of a god reason to keep my Chrysler Neon on the road for another year.

EDIT:
Charity Chariots! The vehicle rules are simple! No bangers! Mongolia Charity Ralliers take cars that have a social utility to the people of Mongolia. Ambulances? Sure! Motorbikes? Fantastic for herders! Cargo vans? NGOs are all over them. We'll work with you to select a vehicle that is both socially useful and which doesn't incur import tax entering Mongolia.

Maybe not.

Absolutely outstanding, congratulations.

Seems like an amazing thing to do. Looks fun.

Looks it doesn't it. I just like the idea of visiting lots of countries very quickly. See something you like, take a photo of it, and then keep going. My team next year are hopefully going to travel a lot around Europe :)

Tres you need...no I NEED you to finish the blog! at the moment your stuck in the middle of Mongolia, we don't know if you ever made it yet!

Good luck to you next year ZiiP, it's such a brilliant experiance, I'm already trying to think how I'm going to do something like that again...Canada to Argentina is my thinking! personally I'd go for spending more time in Mongolia/Kaza and the like than travelling round Europe lots, you can do Europe any time.

This is true, a lot of Kaza/Mongolia is just desert though :-S Plan for me and one of the guys doing this in 2011 is to do something similar in 2013, maybe across America :)

I'm doing it next year which should be a laugh, seeing as I'm the only one out of the 4 at the moment that can't actually drive, I am learning though!

Ah, don't worry about that, 2/3rds of our team didn't have a driving license when we signed up (me included). In fact, the Rally was the 2nd or 3rd time I'd ever driven...

Blog is still on day 27 :(

Blog will definitely be done by New Year - I have all my notes together, just a case of finding a good day and doing it!

Ukadder, you're so right - if I did it again, I'd love to spend more time in Mongolia and Kazakh. Immense places.

Kazakh and Mongolia are mostly barren landscapes, but awe inspiring at the same time. I enjoyed that so much more than developed/built up countries!

Thanks all!
