Hi guys.

I just brought a new PC and I am not very happy with the graphics, I just ask one question , what graphic card should I buy for my PC?

And far as I know (not sure about this, no idea how to find, despite opening my case) my power supply is 300w. I check the overclockers.co.uk and far as I can see there are no specifications about how much power, graphics card take.

2 weeks ago I find a nVidia graphic card (minimum 300W require) and when I decide to buy it

Ok, firstly 300W is not a lot of power for a Psu and that would be a very limiting factor on what kind of graphics card you could get. Secondly, what kind of gaming are you thinking of doing, casual low key stuff OR playing the latest games on maxx settings.
Also what resolution is your monitor, as this will also have a big bearing on what advice you are given.:)

Also what make and model is your new Pc?

300W is very low, unless you go with a low-end budget option you will have to replace the PSU. I had to do a similar thing myself, got a PC with a 350W PSU and quickly replaced it with a cheap second-hand Corsair HX 620W :)

Hello and welcome to the forum

When you buy a PC off the shelf (or even spec it yourself from someone like Dell), it doesn't seem like terrible value. It's suitable for mums and dads (obviously not the geeky ones), but what it's not good at is allowing you to upgrade things. Power supplies are one of the things they scimp on the most.

If it is not too late, I'd seriously consider returning the PC, and building a much better unit for the same cost. If it is too late, I'm not sure what to say, given that you're finding the current graphics unsatisfactory. You currently have on board graphics, and I don't think you can put in anything of note. The top graphics cards (which I'm not suggesting you even look at) can use over 300W on their own.

Please tell us that you can somehow return it - the salesman described it as a fast quadcore PC, but it's not, or something.

I am not a hard gamer, mostly playing cs:s. New games only on my xbox, after a hard working day. Let`s just say , to play some black ops on low/med

exotic444 , next thing on my shopping list is a car, so not thinking spending more money.

Acer Aspire - M3802 - 4 GB RAM - 2.5 GHz - 1TB HDD
Monitor: Acer P195HQ , Max. Resolution 1366 x 768

I can upgrade my psu, ebay is always there (I see some cheap new psu 500w with only 25 quid).

30 day return policy is gone :(
Thank you

At 25 quid it sounds like another cheap generic psu that you don't want mate. What sort of budget do you have in mind? You'd be looking at a new psu + gpu.

Okay for Black ops on low/med at the resolution you play at (relatively quite low), I would recommend replacing the PSU to approx. 500W (try and avoid the real cheap and nasty brands though), then looking at perhaps this graphics card - HIS ATI Radeon HD 5670 512MB GDDR5 ICEQ PCI-Express Graphics Card - good value for £70 and should be able to handle Black Ops okay at your resolution.

The best deal available right now however is for the MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 Twin FrozR II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card which OCUK are temporarily offering at the insane pre-order price of £125. That is a great card and will play Black Ops and other games at very high settings on your monitor for years to come. However, this may be unnecessary for your needs, and requires at least a quality 500W PSU with two PCI-E power connectors.

No worries, we'll work with that.

+1. Ebay is a good place to look for a psu, but you want a good psu that's being dropped for someone who's going dual graphics card etc.

Yeah ^ I picked up a second hand OCZ Stealth Stream 650w off the bay for £25, good place to start. I wouldn't go for the cheap 500w ones, a friend of mine bought a base unit, the PSU was 500w but it was kind of generic, without the right kind of connector for a graphics card and even with an adapter couldn't run a 4870 for more than 5 seconds once it clocked up and kicked in to 3d mode!

Whats your budget anyhows? Your not going to need a hugely powerful graphics card by the sounds of things and if you don't mind second hand im thinking something like a second hand 500+ watt PSU (OCZ, Cooler Master, Corsair, Enermax, Zalman) and a second hand radeon 4870/4890! Probably could pick up both for less than £80-90!

like the above said i would try and get ur money back, i built my own pc with 300 pounds quad core with the latest parts only exception is the graphics card but if u cant get ur money back that graphics card looks good and i would go for the coolermaster 550 watt, but i would recommend looking at this card if u want higher settings it's not that much more expensive but it is quite good for the price. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-004-PL&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1854
