Hmmm, ZX Spectrum + 128k. No idea what was in that.

First proper PC was a 486 SX 33Mhz.

First PC that I bought was a Pentium II 266. Slot A if I remember correctly. Looked like a MegaDrive/SNES cartridge.

First computer I owned for a 48k Spectrum with a Z80, first PC was a 386sx 25.

Then:
P60 @66MHz
P150 @187.5MHz
Celeron 300A @ 464MHz
AMD 1GHz TBird @ 1.4GHz
P2.8A @ 3.2GHz
E4300 @ 3.2GHz

Next up? Who knows... a C2D over 3GHz is still a pretty powerful platform. I expect I will upgrade towards the end of 2011 to a 6+ core system.

Was it worth it? Why not just go 1200 to 4400? I'd say a CPU is only worth considering if it at least tipples CPU performance.
