Wow, that DG is good value. I want one but no idea what for yet! I already have the X-Fi xtremegamer in my gaming rig and my HTPC uses onboard, but it's via HDMI or SPDIF.

I don't know wether this is the place or not, but what is the advantage of this sound card over what is already on my motherboard? I've been thinking about getting a 5.1 headset to replace the Logitech Stereo one I've been using for a while. Would it be worth getting a sound card and/or the headset or spend the money on something else?

Dedicated sound is always in most case's better than on board audio, you'll get no back ground noise (hissing & electro intferance) on dedicated cards. And they are tuned to do a specific job. Drivers are usually better too. not to mention the sound they output its a lot richer and fuller than onboard.

To be honest at the price OCUK have the DG at you'd be mad not to have a punt not just to cure your curiosity.

I've had soundblasters and xonar D2 DS etc so I'm looking forward to the DG arriving should be a good gaming card.

Ok then. Have MORE of my money. I would have only wasted it on presents or food or something.

Quick Q. What kind of PCI connector is that? I only have 1-2 slots left since my new GPU's fan covered one up.

There is only one type of PCI... usually a white connection on the mobo. PCI-E is usually smaller or in the case of a x16 slot, taken by the graphics card.

As for advantages, a dedicated card is much 'cleaner' and a fuller sound, if you're using headphones you'll also get the joy of Dolby Headphone which is itself worth the money.

Put it this way. The onboard on my mobo is good by general standards as it is a top of the line ASUS Crosshair IV.

The DG blows it away.

What a steal!

So what does this fit into then?

Also I take it I'll need to buy headphones with the 3.5mm jacks rather than my current USB ones.

I think I may have to go for that xonar. Opinions here seem good but it's been a while since I've used anything other than onboard audio so I'm not really sure what to expect. I used to have a Creative x-fi xtreme game blah blah 1337 something or other that sounded OK but had patchy driver support - I'm assuming this will sound a little worse but be better supported?

The white PCI slots, not the PCI-E slots... I think we're misunderstanding each other here :p

And yes, you'll require a standard jack set of 'phones rather than USB (as I believe they have an inbuilt DAC thus making the DG useless).

You might not even notice the difference between the 2 cards to be fair, for both sound quality and driver support  I've found the Asus drivers work ok, but there were issues I had which the UNi drivers fixed for me (specifically stereo was 'upscaled' to my 5.1 system which sounded awful).
