My watch bracelet is pretty grubby. Where am I best going to get it cleaned? How much does it cost? The watch only cost me £80 new, so if it's going to cost £100 to get it cleaned I'll figure a way to do it myself...

Just the local jewellers. When I got mine for my 21st my mum took out the 5 year warranty on it. Since then its had a new strap, a new clasp a new battery and 2 new faces.

I used to wear it all the time and it got anged up, now i only wear it on occasions since the warranty expired. We made sure it got in for its final service before it finished though.

for an £80 piece its just not worth it they will charge £20 - £30

brasso and a rag will yield the same results and you can save on future visits!

what is the material/finish of the bracelet ? let me know and I shoudl be able to tell you the best way to clean it

the cheat's way is to go to a posh watch shop and while trying watches on they will almost always take yours in the back and clean it for nothing ;)

Hello, I would like to try a few Rolexes! Please clean my bottom of the line Tissot!

It's crazy but it might just work ;)

I know it's not the same, but your post reminded me of this:

Give it a go! If they think there's a £2k sale in it, they'll clean your cheapo Tissot. Everyone has to buy a 1st Rolex at some point.

Get a Cape Cod cloth off ebay.

Thats what I asked the material and fiish for, if polished stainless then clean with toothpaste and polish with CC

just for the recoed if you but your CC cloths from lakeland.com you can get tins full of them that work out loads better value

Ok.. i'm going to sound slightly insane here, but as I only have a £100 Seiko, this is what I do (and it really does work)

Take one mug or heatproof glass that is taller then the watch is long when dangling. Take a couple of teaspoons and hook the watch over them. Now pour boiling water into the receptacle and add some sort of mild detergent (personally I use a dab of washing up liquid cos I'm not rubbing it in, it's just being used as a surfacant, but what you use is up to you). Give it a few minutes so the temperature of the water drops a bit, then lower the bracelet in, with the face outside the water hooked over the spoons. Top up the water to cover as much of the bracelet as you can.

Now I usually just leave it overnight. Most bracelets are stainless steel so wont rust. I'm always amazed at the colour of the water the next day. Then just take it out, give it a rinse under the tap (careful if the face isn't water resistant) and leave somewhere warm to dry.

I'm positive many will say I'm mad, but it really cleans everything, including the bits in between the links. Clearly I wouldn't do this if it was an expensive watch, but it's not, so i just like to keep it looking reasonably clean. Clearly this will also not bring back any shine if that's what you want, personally my watches bracelet is brushed anyway, so there's nothing to shine, but a rub over with a decent lint free soft cloth should shine it up quite nicely afterwards.

If it was only £80 then can't you just get some pure alcohol and clean it with a cloth that way? No need to do anything special on it, surely?

I know £80 isn't the cheapest of watches, but I don't think it warrants an expert cleaner, or special products?

[Edit]
I guess if you want a proper shine back in the bracelet you'll need some semi special polishing stuff, but nothing expensive I wouldn't have thought.
