From 4.0 Ghz to 4.4 Ghz - A difference?

Hey guys,

Thinking of overclocking my i5 or at least trying to, it's already at 4 Ghz, and I may try and up it to 4.2 Ghz or 4.4 Ghz. It's only a extremely brief thought, so before I think about it anymore I just wondered if I would see a noticable difference in the FPS on games such as Metro 2033? And if so, how much FPS difference would there be going from 4 Ghz to 4.2 Ghz and 4.4 Ghz. I am aware that accurate numbers may be hard to calculate, so looking for a few rough guesses.

Cheers,

Steve.

Only really noticeable in benchmarks I'd imagine. But if you can get 4.4 easily enough without too much volt then why not IMO.

Try and see for yourself.

I agree with the others, if it will clock to that without a big increase in volts, then yes its worth trying, but if it needs to much volts, for the little increase then its not.

Not really worth the extra efforct and voltage tbh.

You will see limited gains other than in benchmarks and will se a big temp increase, even if you don't increase volts much the extra clock will generate a lot of heat.

Hell yea! It will be loads better at 4.4GHz, though you'll need good cooling!

Personally, I would push it as high as possible. Who cares what you need :D. Its a matter of can you / cant you. You can always clock it back down later :p

Id agree with this, it's always nice to try and eek the most out of the kit you have, sadly though im limited to 4ghz due to air cooling.

Kinda obvious but 4.0 to 4.4 is just 10%. The absolutely, best case scenario, if there are no other limiting factors improvement you'll see is 10%. In the real world the CPU is never the sole limit so any improvement you'll see will be less than 10%. Not worth it in my opinion.

:p

Well done captain fantastic, you have proved that I am right.

It will be better, but as said before. Do the pros outweigh the cons
