Hi guys i just have a quick question.

My pc setup is know where near a beast of a gamers machine but it does run games quite well with windows xp and i am confused as to why.

I have a amd athlon 64 x2 6000+ (3.1ghz)
4GB Kingston Ram
Nvidia geforce GT240 512mb video card.

Now i have compared 4 games in windows xp and windows 7 and put the games on the exact same settings and all 4 games run faster in win xp and i would like to no why this is the case if anyone can help me.

F1 2010
Win 7 Avg FPS 35
Win XP AVG FPS 41

Dirt 2
Win 7 Avg FPS 35.8
Win XP Avg FPS 44.8

Resi 5
Win 7 Avg FPS 47.1
Win Xp Avg FPS 58.7

Team Fortress 2
Win 7 Avg FPS 46.7
Win Xp Avg FPS 55.1

oh dear this old debate.....

We know this and have known this for ages, since vista days. Heres my run down:

1) Xp is a lighter OS.
2) The 4 games you test with arnt great and are either old or poorly optimised. Try BC2 and Cod BO?
3) On my system which used to run XP pro, Vista and now win7 its been quickest with win7.
4) The advantages of Win7 far out way using XP.

Heres a few things to try. Try different variants of drivers and make sure there are no processes going rogue.

(no doubt ive just sparked a huge row :D)

I dont want a debate i just want to no why there is such a big performance difference.

I just wanted to no if there is any setting that can be adjusted within windows 7 as i much prefer it.

Could it be that some games are automatically running either DX10 Or DX11
but then when i load them onto xp they will only run DX9 Which i would presume would give you a higher framerate.

Ok i have tried BC2 on xp and win7.

It still performs better on xp but there is no option to turn on A/A.

Win7 Avg FPS 51.28
Win XP Avg FPS 59.71

So all in all xp is the best os in my opinion for my hardware as that is now 5 games that all perform quite a lot better on win xp.

But this still does not asnwer my question why?
Can someone give me a little help here
Is it because if the game also supports DX10/11 then will automatically run under windows 7 as i cant see any options in the game to change from DX9/10/11

Windows XP cannot not run DX10 and DX11. It would be interesting to see whether there is much difference in framerates if you force the games installed on your Windows 7 partition to run in DX9 mode.

In bc2, its down to direct x, bc2 is a native dx 11 title, though you can make it run in dx 9/10 in win 7, go into your "my documents/bfbc2/settings ini", from here you can change the dx version in win 7, it automatically sets to dx 11, when i only had an 8800gt, i ran it in dx 9 to give me a few more fps.
