My cousin just texted me hes only 15 he wants to know if an 8800GTX will play metro.

I guess cause its xmas he must be after a new GFX card or something...

Last game I played with a 8800GTX was PREY :o

Of course the 8800GTX will be able to play it (obviously with settings turned down).

Cards don't suddenly stop being able to render games simply because new tech is around :)

I imagine being 15 there is no money to spend on something like a 6850 as mentioned above!

although it would play it its quite old tech and runs hot, meaning there's a chance it may fail shortly after he buys it. Something slightly newer and slightly cooler running like a second hand 4870 would be better really.

I have decided to give him £50 towards a better card bless him. He has 60 saved up and his mate was selling a 8800GTX for £35.

110 should get him a GTX 460

Agreed with Vertigo1, I was still happily gaming away at 1900x1200 high settings on my 275 until only a couple of weeks ago. Awesome card for the money.

to be honest he will be fine, i'm still on a 8800gts 512 and it was fine. Dont let people here put you off, its only because they have better graphics card that to them it look bad, but to him it look brilliant.

this shows that the difference between high and low although there is a difference while playing the game you wont notice it too much.

I know it will play it but I just wondered how well and how crap it would look

I play it on my Alienware M11x which has a relatively weak GT335m. It can play Metro quite happily at low settings (1366x768) and a custom config when overclocked (GPU overclocked by 30%).

A 8800GTX should at least be able to do medium settings at 1080p.

From my own testing it looks like a lot of the features that get enabled at High or Very high are harder to spot when actually playing the game (things like shadow filtering and lighting). Even on low settings it looks pretty good.
