Top Gear Christmas Special

An SLS drove passed me a few months back when I was cycling and it just had no presence for me at all. Nice sound, but it was pretty meh. Seeing a 458 in London though, spotted it straight away and couldn't keep my eyes off it. Gorgeous.

Sorry but SLS > 458 and 4 zorsts > 3!

Plus I personally don't like the Italia alloys either, too thin spokes :(

The road he is turning right onto is a one way and as the pedestrian crossing on his road was on red his light would have been on green, the cars on the one way road being stopped seem to support this so I would guess the people crossing may have been doing so on a red light hoping that he was going ahead its a bit of a crazy system. /shrug
If it was green for him then it was green for people crossing the street he was turning in to.

vendetta? obvious they where going to play on it and it was very funny.
stage wow, not as if any other show in the world is staged and apparently it's less staged than people think, it's just they've been doing it for so many years and they just automatically do the same jokes. Much like ocuk memes. But who cares if it's staged.

it's a car entertainment show, not a car review show. Car review shows suck as you only look for a new car maybe a couple of times in your life, other than that who cares about the ins and the outs. They told us the important bits for such cars BHP.

I'm just disappointed with how predictable it has become. I get the whole car entertainment thing, but its got stale and only 1 of the 3 presenters is actually very interesting. It has become less and less for people who are interested in cars.

I wonder if the SLS really is that tail happy or if it was just Clarkson being a plonker? If it is that tail happy, it's a bit of a stupid car really. I'm not a fan of it anyway, I'd take the Ferrari all day long out of those three cars. I prefer the sound, I love how it looks, and if even May can drive it that fast it must be a great car!

Clarkson generally drives most cars like that (I seems to remember he did the same and broke the tyres in the Brooklands).

They recorded parts for a few more Christmas presents which they didn't use.

One part involved Clarkson calling the other two a pair of ****s.

Which they had to refilm where he called them custards.

He then explained this was a combination of vaginas and children born of unmarried parents.

:D

I found Clarkson funnier in real life than on TV, but was suprised at the entire show being scripted totally.

Still cannot see the 458 as a nice looking car. I say it every time but it's going to date so badly. I'd have the Merc of the three of them, lovely thing.

Did he just come out of the side road?

One of those stupid "turn left on red" things if that's the case. Bloomin dangerous and I almost got run over a few times when I was in the states recently! Anyone that really thinks we should impliment that in the UK should be forced to clean up the bodies if we do!:p

Turn on red lights isn't allowed in NYC. :o

I loved the way he stepped on it a bit too much and the back end came out. In the centre of New York. Brilliant.

Of course it's staged, why do people keep acting surprised by this is?

I think the issue is how obviously staged it is at times. None of the presenters are good actors and when they're just following a script it's not particularly entertaining and can be cringeworthy. When that happens, TG is just a mediocre sitcom. The real interaction between the presenters is replaced by badly acted interaction between sitcom characters and between those characters and staged events that they unconvincingly act being surprised by.

When it doesn't happen, when the staging is loose enough, then you get three mates having a laugh and playing with expensive toys while showing genuine appreciation for the art and engineering of those toys and a wider appreciation of engineering in general and how it benefits humanity (which the presenters have explored in various other programs). But the guts of why TG is so popular is some real friends having a laugh doing something they really enjoy - it's the reality underpinning it that makes it popular and that's exactly what is ruined by overt staging. It's TV that appeals to the good side of human nature - being pleased by other people's happiness.

It's a good rule of thumb to ignore Top Gear in general and Clarkson in particular when it comes to information about cars. The priority is entertainment, not education. If someone has £100,000 or more to spend on a car, they'd have to be a total idiot to make a decision based solely on any TV program, let alone a comedy program.

I have no idea whether or not the SLS is that tail happy. I didn't know before this episode of Top Gear and I'm none the wiser about it now. Nor did I expect to be.

I loved the final scene, all three cars just looked stunning charging up and down the streets in New York.

I think the SLS sounds amazing, but looks underwhelming. Whereas the 458 is droolyworthy on all counts!

funniest bit was clarkson with the rifle :p

i reckon they will bring back the black stig, didnt they mention about bringing someone back? claim he didnt really die and has drifted up on a beach or something.

i dont think they will get tiff to just be tiff on it.

weirdest bit was watching them race around new york thinking i was on that street yesterday.

Didn't rate it really, the cars as ever we side shows in my book, too much so these days. How can you take 3 great cars such as those and really from no conclusion...
