Two senior Liberal Democrats have told undercover reporters that they voted in favour of tuition fees even though they opposed the policy.

The journalists taped Transport minister Norman Baker and Deputy Leader of the House, David Heath.

Here is a prime example of what is wrong with the whip system, two MP's vote as instructed even though they did not agree with the policy they were voting on.

I think the coalition is ever so slowly unravelling, you have the Vince Cable revelations, the MP's in the article voicing there opinions on George Osbourne and David Cameron and and various MP's airing their concerns about other polices and yet Oliver Letwin states there is "a deep bond of trust had been formed between both coalition parties - whose policies, he said, have a huge amount of overlap."

Just seems to me that the media and Labour want the coalition to fail, so every disagreement, no matter how small or large is a "HUGE RIFT IN THE COALITION".

The media can and Labour can wish for that, it does not mean it will happen. The Lid Dems are the ones fuelling the fire.

Big shock - people have opions different to their employers. The main thing the articles highlight is the naivety of the lib-dems to voice these opinions to people they dont know. They have always wanted to be liked and still want to be even though they are in power.

Vince Cable has come out of this looking like an utter idiot. Just put a woman in front of him who giggles at his political tales and he'll tell her anything. Silly old man.

The country, media and politicians aren't mature enough for proportional representation or anything close to it.

They're just all too hysterical, and when it isn't 100% their way they do not want to know.

The fact that Lib Dem voters think they haven't got a good deal when they only managed to elect 52 representatives to the House is, frankly, absurd

This is far from normal politics, it is why a coalition (and particularly this one, tories and liberals???) is doomed to in fighting and not working. The real victims in this will be the Lib Dems - they will not be able to reinvent themselves before the next election, needing to stay with the same leader and skeletal structure. Any self respecting Lib Dem supporter will look at all the promises they weren't able to keep, and all the principles they went back on and look elsewhere to place their vote. The Lib Dems were daft to go into this coalition, they have everything to lose.

The liberal democrats are going to be as dead as conservatism is in Scotland after this.

And all I can say is good riddance.

I also have an idea for a poster, not defacing a labour one, but to stick on their Scottish HQ just along the road from me.

Need to wait for a nice quiet night. ;)

It is the LD left causing issues, the right of the party is fairly close to the Tories

Even within individual parties you have massive differences of opinion.

This is a *good* thing.
