i am subscribed to deviantart at the moment. when i use it it seems ok, easy enough, maybe a bit clunky in places.
i always seem to be filtering out the non photographic submissions though, im only really interested in the photography side. dont really get enough constructive feedback.

i have been contemplating moving to flickr. its no big deal, i know its not a life changing decision but which do you use and why?

I use Flickr Pro and have DeviantART account on the side which to be honest, I'll stop using after my 52 week project. Better community on flickr, more photography focused but it's not to say DeviantART isn't, you get a wider audience but the amount of junk even in photography section on DA is quite shocking.

With Flickr, you can give the link to your gran and she can look at your work; Deviantart has just way too much going on which makes its feel too busy and confusing to navigate round. One minute you are looking at what you intended to, the next you have somehow 'deviated' somewhere else. It may just be a case of getting used to it, but I have never had that issue with Flickr.

What I do like about Flickr, is that whilst I do steer clear of the 'post 1, award 5' groups, there are some really excellent groups available. I also have met some really good people as a result of Flickr, some remain in the cloud, others I actually know really well now and meet regularly.

Flickr is engineered around photographs only which at first makes you think its probably the better and it probably is. Deviantart was there first and whilst it supports a wide range of media I do like what I find on there.

Flickr is going the same way deviantart went in regards to comments etc etc so I don't think you can go too far wrong with either.

I dont think either of them deserve my cash though. I had subscribed to deviantart for years but It was money going out and nothing coming back in apart from a few novel extras.

Get on board with both for a free account n see which one you like.

I've been using DA for years, but didn't renew my subscription with it as I really didn't see any benefit. Flickr was really good for free, and I kind of felt obliged to upgrade this year with all the use I've gotten from it. The pro account is another step in the right direction, with more options available and a nerdy stats counter in it :D

I think people have a keener eye on there too as you generally get nicer (constructive) comments if you take a decent photo and upload it to Flickr. I'd say DA is more arty for all ages, and Flickr is better for photography. There's a place for both though I'd say.

That reminds me, I'm sure I got an email today for a free photobook from someone *rummages*

Well Deviantart is full of 14 year old furry idiots and flickR is a giant HDR circlejerk...

Choose your poison I guess :p

Unless there are people you know already on DA, there's not much point to it. I quite like all the extra pointless stuff like Llama Badges, and I have a few real life friends on there so it's what I use: My flickr account doesn't get used for anything other than screenshots and signatures now.

I never got into the Flickr community, it's never been more than a hosting site for me, so I can't comment on the community side of things - tbh I get most of that from TP and DA so I need little more

DA- Check out my painted ballsack, wow that's front page material right there. Congrat's on your first DA

Flickr- Some bloke from spain has invited your graveyard picture into spanish flags, would you like to accept?

:o

why not submit to both and enjoy the exposure, whether its HDR hero or Deviantart Demon i think getting your work out there and seen is probably more important

EDIT: Give Grannie a nice link though, one with nicest comments, she will like that, bless

Constructive comments on either are rare. Though it might only be my opinion DA appears to have a much younger userbase and as such flickr is the slightly more professional.
