Considering a car change in March-April next year and looking to spend upto 45k

I think there's some conflict in Gibbo's decision making process that needs sorting first. £45k is a big amount to drop on a car that will get some serious exotica - proper top marque sports cars and GTs. And such machines are rightly being considered. But in the next breath he's thinking about his commute down some dodgy sounding country lane. Fact is these machines aren't designed for that sort of thing. So Gibbo - decide what you really want - if you want a B-road blaster for the commute, keep the Evo. If you want a proper car, stop worrying about how wide it is and get one (a Corvette, that is :)). Either change your commute route or get a Corsa for that purpose and use the proper car on proper roads.

Or get the Vauxhall - all boxes ticked :) :) Only kidding.

I don't understand all the TT hate in here. It's a good car! Quick too, especially after a little fettling..

Is that all they cost now? Bargain.

I'm not hating it at all, but alongside what else you can buy for the money, it makes little sense.

Because it's a £50k car. If it was £35k, there would be much love. The TT isnt a £50k car, it doesnt look or feel like a £50k car.

The in the middle option is I guess the GTR, but the running cost truly scare me, they are epic, more so than any other car here. :(

We both know why Kris got rid of his GT-R, so if he was your only source of info for running costs, it might be worth looking at it again. Your previous figures were high, at smaller intervals...Litchfields are reasonable and you can source your own fluids outside of the HPC which could save a penny. Plenty of fellers on GTROC watching the pennies on a high consumption car like this and seem to be managing. I'd give you a list if I thought it would help, but I'm a HPC **** and it's not the clever way to shop.

Regarding the sharpness, if you have only driven KP's, try another... The difference between the standard geo and race geo is huge (obviously at the expense of the rubber). Regarding the weight, you need to push and be in N or R susp mode and then you'll see why every journo says "it doesn't feel big or heavy". Huge suspension mod potential as well...if you want a quick way of driving a fairly well-prepped GT-R, handling how it should, get a test drive in the 2011 GT-R @ Middlehursts. Honestly, a stock GT-R is a wonderful thing but properly tweaked, they'll twist your mind a bit.

From what I know of you I don't believe a 997 C2 will give you what you seek, it's too accomplished and I also don't think you'd get close to exploiting it on the road, much like the CSL. Now that is not to suggest you don't drive quickly it just outlines that cars that are so accomplished only start to show themselves at SERIOUS licence losing speeds.

Sense. Stop talking it.

Running costs will be drastically lower than every single other car on his list though. Food for thought IMHO.

One could argue the same of an E92 320i M Sport and an M3.. ;)

I dunno, maybe I'm just biased. I've always liked the TT :o

What are you on tonight?

I've just poured another pint of my tramp cider. It's the first time this week that it hasn't tasted like pish :D

This has a 2.5 litre 5 cylinder with one turbo.
This is not a twin turbo V10, or a blown V8 or a twin turbo V6.
It's still going to be cheaper to run than a Porsche.

Well if you want to play that game, he can lose the pretentious badge, keep the 2.5T warble, still look like a chav and save a good £25k by buying a Focus RS. It'll also be cheaper to run.
